So, Dwiin and Qah are secretly mates. It's a secret because, where Qah is considered one of the strongest dragons in the clan and expected to be their next King, Dwiin is not, be it in physical strength or magic. In their clan, power means everything, so if it came to light that they were mates, it would be a blow to Qah's credibility and put his position in jeopardy.

Now, Dwiin knows Qah cares for her, but they cannot openly express their love. If anyone mocks her for her shortcomings, Qah can't defend her, and he has to shoot down any suggestion or hypotheticals about the two of them. Dwiin knows he has to do this, but it still hurts, and sometimes she does come to question if his love actually is genuine. But then she steels herself, doubling down and believing in him and his promise of a world where they don't have to hide how they feel.
