Here is a straight chisel I've forged from a piece of rather old hex bar. Most times out of ten hex bar that was produced in the past (1800s-1900s) was high carbon steel material that was meant to be forged into... chisels.
This is a single bevel cold chisel that I can use to cut sheet metal. The goal of this is to reduce amount of file work I need to do. With a regular chisel, it cuts a V into the sheet metal and leaves a beveled edge on the end of the workpieces that needs to be filed or ground back. This leaves a more square edge.
Just scribe a line and cut a little bit away from said line and that's all.
You can see that the striking end of the chisel a little flared out already, which means it's very soft at that end. I'll have to fix that later so the tool lasts longer and doesn't deform and mushroom so much.
