I would like to introduce to you my newest OC and the Alien species they are a member of:
Hard vacuum famously does not propagate sound very well. When you scream into the void you will not hear anyone scream back at you. Thus when a creature that relies on echolocation to see emits up at the night sky, it is empty to them.
This is why Maps will never take the stars in the sky for granted. Seeing their beauty was not their birthright. It was a privilege granted to them by artists of other species and Revhydra with scientific instruments that could measure the EM spectrum.
This is why they wish to visit them all. To dip into their upper atmospheres and hear the echoes of chirps they themselves composed.
This is why their second great love is the greatest infrastructure project in the entire galaxy. The enormous network of mostly star pumped lasers, planet sized optics, and lightyear range targeting systems that alows civilian starships to be launched between the small specks of light in the endless interstellar void at significant fractions of c. The Highnet.
That's right, his species of aliens that resemble Giant flying bat-octopuses made from 4 flying snakes with their heads glued together aren't savage beasts but people.
I don't like Aliens in fiction that are just “Human but blue” or “Wolf but with 6 limbs”, or even “Humanoid blue wolf with 6 limbs”.
Nymeer have always meant to be the most human-like of my aliens. I like my aliens looking genuinely alien.
I'll get more into the species' lore and history, The role the Revhydra played in the bubble war, The quirks of their xenobiology, and all that good stuff in later posts.
