The late afternoon light streamed through the round window, scattering soft gold across the wooden floor. Amaranth—Amy, to those she loved—curled lazily on her side, the rose-patterned wrap barely clinging to her dappled form. The breeze smelled of jasmine and distant rain, and outside, birds sang the lullaby of summer’s end.
In this little room, surrounded by stillness and warmth, she was more than priestess, more than healer. She was simply a woman at peace, and blooming in the gentle hush of a life finally allowed to be soft.
