fantastic news, the thrift store had a jackal sized chair
I might put some wallpaper up on the back of the cabinet and hang a few things on the walls, but with this new prop Vaughn's tiny room is more or less complete. he doesn't pose enough to sit in the chair unfortunately, but at least he has something to lean on besides a plain doll stand \o/ the chair is also good for shoving random unsightly stuff behind (which is more or less canonical).
art doll was made by me back in 2022, all the props are things I've either made or found over the last few years.

Dang, this is fantastic! I've always enjoyed miniatures but since getting into making wee little dolls of my own, I'm extra impressed by stuff like this. The doll itself is fantastic... how'd you go about accomplishing the leg braces? I'm guessing the shoes are doll shoes and the outfit was custom-made (could be wrong, though!), but I'm having a hard time figure out exactly what went into those! Rigged up from a bunch of little belts?
It's a great little scene, too. Love the mixture of little hobby items, period tech, and clutter. That chair is an awesome find, it really draws everything together!

You're correct that the shoes are doll shoes (painted and slightly modified) and everything else is 100% custom! So the braces are craft leather and Tim Holtz buckle fittings from Joanns (rip) while the thrift store yielded some oversized steel BBQ skewers that I cut, bent, and drilled. then I just threaded some silver buttons for the knee joints. used brads to connect everything together. honestly if I hadn't found those skewers this project would STILL probably be a wip almost a decade in the making lol, finding the perfect material held me up for literal years!!
Oooh, creative problem solving like that is my favorite part about miniatures. You did a fantastic job on those! They turned out perfectly--super slick, I genuinely couldn't tell how you pulled it off and even hearing you describe your process it's hard to visually pick apart--everything fits together seamlessly. Very impressive work!
Joanns will be sorely, sorely missed! I'm glad I got the worst of my custom doll fever out of the way while it was still in business--I don't know how anyone is supposed to put together a complicated outfit or little dollhouse room diorama without them. :(

there are some slightly better pics further back in my gallery but I never took WIP shots in the frenzy of seeing them finally come together- that said, I'd totally be down to do a detailed overview if anyone needed help with a similar project.
I never bought Calico Critters stuff at Joanns even with coupons, but I am gonna miss the Tim Holtz aisle and the fabric remnants. Fortunately there's always the thrift store and Michaels is there to pick up the slack on miniature props!

Oh I typically bought the Calico Critters online secondhand from Mercari, outside of "new release" situations--those little bastards were pricey brand new! I loved their fabrics, though, and other craft supplies... and, occasionally, as a treat, some discount Halloween decorations.
Michael's is a decent replacement, but unfortunately, we don't have one in my town. It's Walmart or Hobby Lobby--yes, it really is that dire. :I
