Adopted and raised by the dragonborn dockworker Arves and drow librarian Allowen, his life was relatively normal, usually spent running around the lower city docks, terrorizing the streets with pranks alongside his best friend, tiefling-orc Gestari. The only thing of note was being unable to remember his life prior to being adopted, and the "white ghost" that once stalked him. He has three other sisters growing up as well, being dubbed the baby brother for some time before quickly outgrowing all of them, but remaining their supportive brother all the same.
Once he was older, Eligar became less enthused about city life and took to exploring any wilds he could, even going on his own adventures. However, life came to a halt when Gestari's wild magic lashed out and turned Eligar to stone for a decade. When he was finally free, much of life was changed, from the death of loved ones, including his father, to many of those having greatly aged while he was stuck the same. He never blamed Gestari for what happened and even went on a pilgrimage for answers to controlling her magic, but he also laments what was lost, despite the fact that he aged faster than most of his peers as is.
A year before the events of Baldur's Gate, his older sister Signi was ambushed and scarred by a group of six, sending him on a revenge quest and killing them one by one. Eligar had been hunting down his fourth quarry when he was abducted by the Nautiloid, forced to put his hunt on hold to spend his last days being a selfless hero, in honor of his family. Up until finding mark number four in the githyanki dungeon... :3
