Of course one could simply control a corpse directly through focus, force of will and a hell of a lot more magic, but even the most skilled of us will only just manage to control about 4 at a time. Then you have to think of how to arm your forces since intact weapons are far less accessible than buried bodies. Then finally when the fighting is over and the battle is won there is the monumental task of seeing to the requests of the dead before they are once again put to rest, lest we risk being haunted for the rest of our mortal days.
