Hello!
newbie artist here.
This is my very first attempt at drawing stuff (if we don't count some simple school doodles from back then...).
Not sure if this website requires detailed descriptions, but I'll do one :)
This is Rani from The Lion Guard. I recently finished watching the 3rd season. She is one of my favorite characters from the show even though she had much less screen time and didn’t get as much character development as I wished. I used a screenshot from the show and tried to redraw it using my horrendous drawing skill (without original background).
This was my second day trying to draw on tablet. I think I've spent 10+ hours total drawing her while simultaneously learning Krita, watching a bunch of videos/tutorials on how to draw digital art properly (the concept of making a super simple sketch first, then drawing a bit better sketch, then lines, color, adding shadows and light). And even how to make a rim light. I think the most helpful video for me was one called TLK Drawing Tutorial: Shading and Lighting (Voiceover) by youtube name JasperArt “Jasper”. It helped me to (poorly) apply what i learned from other videos and showed how to make really cool shading stuffs.
There are several issues and tons of errors i can already see, like ears might look too small, then there were issues with eyes, etc. And there was one issue that i already fixed - neck was way too long on initial sketch, so i had to move every single layer (lines, color and even shading layer) to make the neck smaller. And I'm pretty sure there are more issue in this drawing that i can't yet notice myself.
Anyways, i had A LOT of fun drawing her, enjoying every min of it despite so many issues i faced while learning how to draw digitally.
Next step for me will be a deep dive into studying fundamentals. So that future art from me (hopefully) could be much better and so that i didn't have to rely on screenshot and make my own poses. I dunno, i really wanted to do some drawing right away without spending time on essentials, fundamentals etc... but still ended up watching a good number of tutorials while drawing Rani.
I'm not sure if redrawing stuff from screenshots is widely accepted practice or if it's a good idea in general - i just really wanted to create something while not having any skills. So basically the best i can do is to use references (screenshot in this case) and try my luck.
Ooh, that a lot of text right here! I probably should wrap it up. If you've read all of it - I'm really thankful! :) It was a really interesting start of my journey and i don't really mind uploading a poorly drawn picture. I suppose it will be like a great relic to come back and revisit in future.🙂
I've uploaded some additional layers on DA page , if someone is interested to see some layers.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
