"In a contemporary world much like our own, a young woman, Lilette, has taken a chance in reconnecting with her estranged aunt. But despite her family's warnings, Lilette discovers a kinder and more reasonable soul than she was led to believe. Now, as summer break and her return home looms on the horizon, tread is the line between instilled values and personal discovery, and Lilette confides in her aunt a deepest uncertainty."
Not my newest work, but a debut all the same! What started as a scene study meant to explore Aunt Raisha's character and relationship with her neice quickly became something far more personal. As many of us know, it can be a very difficult thing to feel so alone in our thoughts, to hold truths about ourselves so tightly for fear of others knowing. It can be difficult to share parts of us that even we don't fully understand.
Lilette has long been a character dear to me, a bubbly young lioness who, even with such indomitable optimism, is no stranger to self-doubt. As she begins to experience the world beyond her small-town upbringing, some truths become too difficult to ignore.
"Who We Are" is a short, two-page story that takes place in my yet-unnamed contemporary setting.
Icon art by me.
Setting, story, and characters Lilette Kay and Raisha Junnings belong to me.
Do not re-post.
