"No one told me that being on the Pleasure Island Donks would be so exhausting! All I w-HAAAAAW-nna to do is graze around and eat some hay, not throw a ball around!!" Wyatt finished his interview with the admittedly very curious reporter after his team's playoff win against the Pigs of Circe's Beach. He was new to the team - a junior transfer - but hadn't expected the lethargy that had come with his tenure on Pleasure Island. Wyatt knew, of course, of the "dangers" of being a player on this team - rarely did a player make it past their first season before being retired permanently - and not due to any injury or benching. Pleasure Island had the distinct reputation of changing their players into donkeys. Wyatt had known the risks before signing - he had wanted it. In fact, most of his teammates did.
Wyatt had arrived on the island a few months before, having been scouted and accepting a generous offer to play for the team, allow his humanity to be stripped away, and to enjoy a few months of, well... pleasure before becoming a beast of burden fit for nothing more than fieldwork. Since arriving, he had found the island more than hospitable to his needs; he was even a minor celebrity among the residents of the small town that lined the beach. Not every day did they see a star football quarterback in their midst, he had assumed. He had remained almost entirely human for the first month - no changes to be seen save for thicker body hair and mustache, which made his usual morning upkeep so difficult that it took him only a few weeks to abandon it entirely. Other changes seeped their way in slowly, starting with his nose, which he noticed was gradually beginning to both flatten out and protrude outward - Wyatt's muzzle had begun to take shape. Strangely, he noticed it held little bearing on his speech or ability to communicate, a side effect for the magic that worked on the island's residents. Later, he noticed his ears beginning to grow to points, stretching out from his head and developing their own thick coating of fur that matched his head of auburn hair, lighter and more blond on the underside and darker and browner on the upside. Yet it was when his tail developed that the powers that be of Pleasure Island determined he was to have his first checkup.
The doctor was friendly enough, if not slightly intimidating as he was more donkey than man. He greeted Wyatt with a warm smile before shaking his hand. "Dr. Lampwick, pleased to meet you."
"Uh, Wyatt. Likewise." Wyatt didn't know what to do; it was his first time for a checkup.
"Sit down," Dr. Lampwick said, beckoning the young Donk into his office, which would have had the exact feel of a regular doctor's office back home if it weren't for the trough of hay in the left corner and an examination table that looked more suited for an animal than a human. "Yes, the first impression can be tough," the doctor continued, noticing the discomfort in Wyatt's expression. "Some of my patients do like to enjoy a snack while I run their tests. Tell me, would you say that has life been tougher, easier, or about the same since becoming a Donk?"
"Donk" Wyatt echoed in confusion. He was a human!
"Yes, by now your transformation has progressed far enough along that you are more Donk than human. Donk, of course, being the technical term for someone undergoing asinomorphosis..."
The examination continued in much the same way. Dr. Lampwick had pointed out several patches of donkey-like fur that Wyatt had failed to notice and had informed him that, from this point on, his transformation was to be heavily monitored and examined, since no one Donk changes in the same way. "You won't lose use of your hands, since you are playing on the Donks football team. Those changes will be your very last, once ferality is inevitable," he had said when Wyatt had brought it up. He had seen many people in and about the town that seemed lesser along than him yet had fully-formed hooves or had resorted to using prosthetic hands and feet for normality's sake. Wyatt felt more informed than ever as he returned to his dorm to prepare for his playoff game.
It had been a tough match, but the Donks had barely came out on top against the Pigs. Wyatt, however, was feeling more frustrated than anything... the whole game, he had been staring out into the empty field next to the stadium, wondering... what would it feel like to graze?
The newest member of Pleasure Island's own football team is finding his life a bit stressful... would you?
