In this timeline, Stefan Dušan dies of old age at the age of 71. This allows him to further realise his ambitions of expanding the Serbian Empire. First by invading the Byzantines and sieging Salonica and Adrianople, securing a stronghold on Anatolia by defeating the Byzantines and Ottomans, then finally sieging Constantinople itself, leading to Dušan the Mighty restoring the Roman Empire under Serbian Nemanjić rule.
The Rest of Dušan's reign was spent on subsequent conquests in Anatolia and the Frankokratia of Greece alongside further efforts to centralize his empire bolstered by access to the Byzantine bureaucracy.
After his death, Uroš V would be crowned Roman Emperor. Shortly after this, Uroš's rule would be contested by his cousin Jovan Uroš, who would use his direct lineage to the previous Palaiologos dynasty to legitimise his rule over Constantinople causing the Nemanjić Succession Crisis of the 1380s.
Jovan Uroš would eventually win in this conflict after Uroš V's death in battle, but the Roman Empire would lose vast amounts of territory to the Turks, Albanians, Bulgarians, Hungarians, and Latin Nobles along with rebellion from Greek Pretenders and the Serbian nobility with the Roman Empire vulnerable to total collapse.
Jovan Uroš, determined to live up to the legacy of his predecessor Dušan the Mighty, managed to neutralize most rebellious pretenders and nobles save for some of the nobility in Western Serbia joining Stefan Dabiša's Bosnian Kingdom to maintain some autonomy.
Jovan would also work on reclaiming the territory lost during the succession crisis. Most notably in invasions on the Catholic fiefdoms of Greece, the Turkish beyliks, and Genoa leading to the acquisition of Gazaria into the Serbo-Roman Empire. In the 1410s Jovan would also secure an alliance with Wallachia through the marriage of his son Konstantin which contributed significantly to the reduction of the Second Bulgarian Empire.
By the beginning of the reign of Emperor Konstantin Nemanjić in 1422, the Roman Empire is a re-emerging power where both Greek and Serbian customs and culture dictate the government and court fo the Roman Empire. It's main adversaries are the Karamanid Beylik of Anatolia, Hungary, and the Mamluks. The Empire faces a shaky future as the Serbs and Greeks vye for dominance over the Roman court and Konstantin seeks to continue his father's work of reconquest in the Balkans.
