She quickly adapted to life in the city were she spent 2 years in Dawson college on a pre University science course. In this time she tried dating many different men but non of these relationships lasted , often leaving the rather dominate Mare feeling rejected. After graduating with top grades she went onto move to the United Kingdom in order to take up a scholarship offered by Oxford University, where she went onto study particle physics.
During her time at Oxford she made many contacts in the scientific, and business including Professor Hal Hudson a fellow Canadian, whom the Mare was instantly smitten with until she found out he had a wife and son back in Canada. As well the head of Ezra Enterprises, the Ezra the 3rd who's family had been a donor to the University for centuries.
By the time she was only 25 ,Ellany had become Doctor Montmorency and was instantly scooped up by the military in order to join the highly classified Advanced Concepts and Materials Experiments group. Here she was brought onto a project that both awaken something deep within the mare and was at the same time some of the most trying times of her life.
Project Szalinski under Doctor Balin, was the most ambitious project ever conducted by the A.C.M.E group as it's goal was to create size manipulation technology. While they had a working prototype this device was merely a proof of concept shown to the military and corporate backers only able rescale small objects while melting the bulk of its own super conductors and requiring it's only nuclear reactor.
While Ellany loved the concept of the work she found her colleague Dr Balin to be the bane of her existence as the man treated her much more like a lab assistant then anything else, while shooting down the mares ideas , and only crediting her if they failed, often dangling the threat of her being fired over her head.
However Ellany took advantage of her colleagues lack of care for what she did when he didn't need her to act as a glorified lab assistant to 'gather' resources she'd never have access to ,work on her pet project and security blanket. The transportal pager.
This device allowed for near instant travel between two points via a portal however even more useful was the ability to manipulate the portal sizes to allow for the rescaling of anything passing through it.
While successful Ellany kept the project secret as the failing Project Szalinski was brought under review due to the highly sensitive materials she'd stolen to create it. Thankfully for the mare the intervention of one of the projects key backers and suppliers Ezra the 3rd the blame was pinned on Dr Balin. However in one final act of spite Dr Balin made sure to file a performance review of Ellany so bad she two was kicked from the A.C.M.E group.
Left unemployed, and with no work history from the last year due to the extremely classified nature of anything the A.C.M.E group worked on. Left Ellany feeling as if she only had two options, call her parents for help or offer Ezra her mostly untested transportal pager as a bargaining chip in order to secure a herself a future at his company.
After a single call she had her meeting with Ellany who demonstrated the Transportal Pagers many capabilities before Ezra who hired her on the spot as the CEO of a new subsidiary of his company Marehead Technology and Research devoted entirely to research into particle physics, though between them this was code for size manipulation research.
The next few years were spent trying to create a working size ray. Unfortunately this endeavour stalled just beyond where Project Szalinski reached as while they got passed the issues with the internals melting the power issue remained as single firing of their device soaked up more power than a major city would use within a day. Forcing Ellany to make up an excuse to the New York City government for the blackout their first test caused , and explain to Ezra that the months energy bill might be a little higher , by a factor of a few thousand.
After which the development of their own size ray was halted , and instead Ellany focused on the many myths and rumors of size changing beings. Getting a break through rapidly in the field as she developed a way of detecting particle manipulation by using satellites to scan for the slight magnetic variables created by the rescaling of particles. Though only accurate to a region within roughly 10 miles this allowed her and Ezra to monitor for others.
In the meantime Ellany had been making more Transportal pagers and had refined the design, however whilst she was away from home at a conference in Japan a nearly finished one was stolen during a break into her apartment back in New York. This was only discovered a week later upon her return, the pagers lose was never reported to the police only to Ezra, though both thought the their thief would never figure out the device's true purpose.
The disappearance of a Town in Michigan was registered as the most potent size manipulation event ever detected, and Ezra tasked Ellany with investigating the source of it. After many private investgators, birbes, stake outs, and having someone watching their monitoring system 24/7 they narrower down the sources to minor East Coast University.
With this info in hand Ellany rushed to tell Ezra the two had agreed to met in person only to discuss size research, and using the Transportal Pager to avoid being seen meeting to often. However upon using her pager to enter his office the Doctor saw a dragon sat behind Ezra's desk. This shocked the mare till it spoke and she quickly realised it was her boss. It wasn't to hard for Ellany to accept her boss was in fact part of a supposedly extinct race , given all the strange technology she'd seen at A.C.M.E.
After explaining her findings a month later Ellany found herself lecturing a class on particle physics before one of the people she assumed was responsible for doing what she couldn't.
After several months of trying the Doctor narrowed down the cluprits and informed her boss. While Ezra confronted Jay , Ellany confronted Toby in her office before making Toby the same offer as Jay got to work on size technology under her and Ezra. After which she finished the year at the college before quitting.
She currently still runs Marehead with Jay and Toby as key members of staff. With there help she has created the Size Ray MK2 , a major upgrade on the MK1 as it has several new features and integrates the transport pager as opposed to the older more ad-hock setup used with that MK1.
She is very prone to looking the other way for them knowing both have shared size tech with others, though keeps track of it in secret until the Cottonport incident where she handed over a full list of names and addresses to Ezra of everywhere size tech had been detached so they could monitor them closer.
Personality
Ellany comes off as a very no nonsense, domineering , workcoholic type of mare, with little to no patience for others who can't meet her standards. She's very cold and keeps most people at a distance, and tends to actively unleash some of her fury on those who try to get close to her. Especially men after her experience with several boyfriends and worse still Dr Balin.
She naturally dominates others with her size ,very powerful personality, as well as her seeming bullheaded levels of self confidence. Often leading to her lacking a great deal of tacted when dealing with others.
Despite her relatively young age Ellany is phased by little after having been brought into highly classified research straight out of education as she's seen enough things that should be impossible that little if anything shocks her.
Even discovering her boss was a dragon didn't much beyond leave her slightly surprised for a short while, not in the slightest affecting her rather fierce loyalty to Ezra, whom is one of the few people she shows respect to as well as even some degree of submission rarely arguing back with him. As he is often the only one able to get her to stop working and take time off, something which she only does when her hand is forced as her passion for her field and need to demonstrate that she is a capable scientist often lead to her overworking herself beyond burn out.
While never seeming like it she is rather protective of those she friends considers, though tends to cloak it in other reasons such as work related ones. As deep down she is a nice person who simply built walls to protect herself from everything she's been through.
