Nathan let out a deep sigh as he shut his car’s engine off, allowing himself to rest in his driver’s seat for a moment as he rubbed his eyes. Home, at last. Of course fate would decide that the shift he worked on his birthday would get extended by two extra hours. While it wasn’t in the running for the worst birthday gift he’d ever received, it was definitely something that he could’ve done without. Still, he was glad that it was over and done with, and that he had a long, relaxing weekend to look forward to. He had Monday off, which meant three days to chill, play games, and hang out with his girlfriend who, as she usually took extra good care of him on special occasions, would most likely spoil him.
Even with his extended workday, he’d still managed to beat his girlfriend home. Their staggered work hours were an annoyance, unnecessarily cutting down the time they were able to spend with one another, but it was something they’d learned to deal with. Helen would often lead him a note to find when he got home before her, typically just wishing him a good afternoon and reminding him how much she loved him, but sometimes this note had instructions or proposals written on it. Those special notes usually made for an extra fun evening between, and he had little doubt that he’d find something of that nature when he got inside today.
He got out of his car and gathered up his work bag, running a hand through his short black hair as if to make himself look presentable for something, and stepped up to his front door. Walking inside and re-locking the door behind him, he tossed his bag onto the sofa and made a beeline for the kitchen table, which is where Helen’s notes were usually found. Sure enough, a slip of yellow paper was waiting for him...set next to a round cake! His eyes lit up at the sight of the cake; colored rich brown and black, it looked like chocolate cake, but he had little doubt that it was actually carob cake. A single candle was set into the middle of the cake, and there was a lighter, plate, knife, and fork set beside it.
Smiling happily, Nathan picked up the note. There was a lot of writing on the paper, so he was eager to see what his girlfriend had to say.
‘Happy birthday, puppy!’ was the first sentence in Helen’s handwriting, immediately making Nathan blush and feel fuzzy on the inside. He’d always considered himself incredibly lucky to find someone who shared so many of his more private interests, and it always made him squirm whenever she acknowledged them...or took advantage of them. ‘I’m sorry I couldn’t get home before you this time. But don’t let that stop you from celebrating your special day! I want you to have a slice of cake before I get home. Yes, I know, you want to wait for me. But I don’t want to put my puppy in timeout on his birthday, so you have to do what mama says!’
Nathan heard these words in his mind as though they were being said by his girlfriend, which made him feel a little dizzy. Helen was extremely talented at pushing his buttons, saying exactly the right words to turn him into putty in her grasp. If she was here to see him rapidly slipping into littlespace, she’d no doubt usher him off to their bedroom to get him into more appropriate attire before continuing further...but, since he was on his own for a little while longer, he kept his focus on the piece of paper in his hands. He turned it over upon seeing an arrow in the bottom corner.
‘Light the candle and make a wish before you cut the cake,’ Helen instructed with her elegant handwriting. ‘I know it’s a faux pax to tell others what to wish for on their birthday, but I think we both know how much you want to be your TRUE self. The sweet little puppy that I know and love. I’ll be home before you know it, pup! With love—Helen~”
Nathan couldn’t chase the goofy grin from his face as he set the note down, turning back to the cake waiting for him. It looked delicious, and was just the right size for a couple to share over the course of the next several days. True, it felt odd to get started on it while he was waiting for his girlfriend to arrive home, but it was per her instructions. And it had only taken a few sentences from her without even being in the same room as him to push him into his littlespace, which meant that he would follow her instructions to the letter without a bit of hesitation.
Nathan picked up the lighter and lit the candle, pulling the cake a little closer to him as he sat down in a chair. While she hadn’t completely spelled it out for him, he knew what Helen was trying to get him to wish for. Whenever he had a chance to make a wish for something, there were always two things he switched between. One of them was, of course, for him and Helen to live a long, happy, healthy life together, that they’d stay with one another no matter what happened. And the other was a bit less unrealistic and a lot more childish, but no less fervent of a desire; that they’d both somehow find themselves transformed into the characters that they’d created for themselves, that they’d first known one another as, and would be even happier as.
While they were normal humans, the personas they’d created for themselves were wolves. They truly believed that their wolf personifications were reflections of who they were on the inside—and that they’d both chosen a wolf before meeting one another only furthered their belief that they were meant to be together. Boyfriend and girlfriend, wolf and wolfess, partners and mates. It was silly to put it in perspective, but they understood one another on a level that others simply couldn’t.
Nathan closed his eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath as he went over the wish in his mind that he so often made. ‘I wish that Helen and I could be our wolf fursonas in real life, and be exactly who we are on the inside.’ And, after reciting the wish without speaking it aloud—which would’ve ruined the ‘magic’, after all!—he opened his eyes and blew out the candle he’d just lit. The flame vanished in a wisp of smoke that slowly spiraled upwards, disappearing before it reached the ceiling. Nothing had changed, but he felt a little lighter as he sat there. It was always fun to see how a silly little thought could make him feel as happy as they sometimes did.
Moving along with his girlfriend’s instructions, he took the knife and cut into the cake. He didn’t want to eat too much before she got here, so he cut himself a fairly small slice, so he’d be able to have some more once Helen joined him. He moved the small piece to his plate, took his fork, and started eating. The flavor was similar to chocolate but it was somewhat healthier overall, the bite melting in his mouth deliciously. It wasn’t going to take Nathan very long to finish the slice, but he still tried to savor it as best as he could.
He gazed through the window that looked out over his driveway and the street, keeping his eyes peeled for Helen’s light blue car that might be pulling in any moment. Nathan couldn’t help but wonder a little why she wanted him to break into the cake before she got home. Was she just wanting him to be the first one to taste it? Did she want to give him something to enjoy and relax with while he waited for her? Or was she trying to prompt him to do something else that would fit into their private lifestyle? While it might’ve been fun to eat a huge amount of cake in one sitting or generally make a mess out of it, Nathan didn’t want to disrespect Helen after she’d gone through the trouble of getting one for him, even if she was genuinely looking for a way to get the birthday ‘festivities’ started. He could definitely see her giving him a spanking for misbehaving, followed by promptly putting him in a diaper and adult baby clothes, congratulating him on getting a ‘year older while still behaving like a baby’...plenty of similar thoughts ran through his mind, making him shiver and squirm a little from excitement, but he pushed any thoughts of troublemaking away. He wasn’t in the right mood to cause trouble. Besides, Helen knew he always followed the instructions on her notes to the letter, and didn’t plan on doing anything else. He looked back down at his cake to take another bite...
And he was a little surprised at how close it suddenly seemed to his face.
Nathan furrowed his brow, feeling a little dizzy. Was he slouching in his chair? The table wasn’t as tall as it seemed to be now. He usually sat with the edge comfortably up to his lower chest, but now it was almost stood up to his neck. He quickly adjusted his sitting position, but that didn’t solve the issue. It was as though the table had inexplicably become a foot taller...
Or he’d become a foot shorter. As evidenced by the fact that his feet were no longer resting against the floor. And how his shoes had slipped off his feet, suddenly too big to fit properly. And how his work shirt and pants both sagging and baggy, having grown to be much too large for him.
But they hadn’t grown. They were the same size.
He was shrinking!
He let out a shout of surprise, realizing moments later how strange his voice sounded. It was louder than he’d been expecting, almost enough to make him want to plug his ears. But more to the point was how high-pitched it was. Sure, he didn’t have the most masculine voice in the world, but he was sure that others could typically tell that it was a guy talking to them when they didn’t have his face to match to the words. His cry of surprise has sounded shrill, almost squeaky...
Almost like a bark or a yip.
“W-wha’s happenin’ to me?” Nathan spoke aloud, half out of genuine shock and uncertainty, and half wanting to see what it sounded like when he talked. Sure enough, his voice was a lot different. It sounded like it was coming out of a young child’s mouth. He could tell that he was the one talking—yes, he knew he was the one saying the words, but his voice still sounded familiar, despite the odd ring to it.
His voice and height weren’t the only things changing, though. His first clue to this was the way that his hands were morphing before his very eyes. He stared disbelievingly at them as they shrank, becoming less like adult human hands and more like those of a child, less bulky and defined. But, rather than his hair vanishing to further resemble a child, it started growing more, swiftly creeping over his arms and hands to form a soft, fuzzy coat of deep, chocolate-colored hair, much like the cake he’d just bit into.
The cake...the wish he’d made...he was changing, transforming into something else...just like he’d wished for.
It wasn’t hair on his arms and hands. It was fur. His hands weren’t hands, either; they’d become paws, his fingernails turned into short, dull, harmless claws, with squishy pads on the undersides of each of his eight total digits and either palm.
He was turning into a wolf. A wolf pup.
Nathan gasped, his heart pounding in his chest, his eyes wide as he stared down at himself. Though much of his body was now obscured by the clothes that were much too large for him, he could see more of that chocolatey fur sprouting all over his body. He also became aware of how his face had sprouted a muzzle! It was a short muzzle, but he could see that his nose had transformed into a rounded black of a canine’s sniffer. He wiggled in place, perking up his ears—something that he’d always imagined being able to do, and now he could!—as he heard a familiar noise. He kicked his legs until his oversized pants slipped off of his short, fuzzy legs.
Nathan smiled a big, dorky grin as he saw what had happened to his underwear. Unlike the rest of his apparel, it had changed along with his body. The white garment had gotten smaller, but bulkier at the same time. And it wasn’t a plain pair of underwear anymore; it was held in place around his waist by a pair of blue tapes, and the curvature of the garment puffed out to nearly reach his knees.
It wasn’t the first time he’d worn a diaper, having been put in them by his girlfriend numerous times before. But those were adult diapers; this was a baby diaper. Small, cushy, puffy, and delightfully soft to the touch.
A baby diaper for a baby wolf. A wolf pup. The very same two-legged puppy that he’d always pretended to be on the online world.
And now, he was that wolf!
Nathan wagged his tail, ecstatic that he had a tail to wag at all, and clapped his handpaws excitedly as he wiggled his way out of his oversized shirt and loose socks. Soon, he was wearing nothing but his diaper, which was exactly what little wolf puppies were supposed to wear! The thought made his cheeks feel warm, even though he knew that it was the truth. It was funny—he still had all the thoughts that he’d been having as a human adult just a few moments ago, but he felt like a little one-year-old wolf pup. It was great! He’d suddenly turned into his wolf puppy fursona, and it was the coolest thing in the entire world!
He turned around and slowly slunk down off of his chair, being careful not to get tangled up in his work clothes along the way. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do about work now that he was just a puppy, but he didn’t have to worry about that until after the weekend. Plus, he had a whole extra day to enjoy this weekend! That was a super long time for a little wolf pup! What did he have to worry about?
Well, losing his balance as he climbed down from the chair and landing right on his crinkly posterior was something to worry about.
He gasped at the impact, coupled by an embarrassingly loud rustle from his diaper. He’d only fallen a few inches, so it hadn’t really hurt him, especially with the cushion wrapped around his rear end. But it had surprised him, so much so that he felt tears springing to his eyes anyway. He knew that it was silly to get worked up over a short fall, but he couldn’t help it. It was so scary and so sudden! Whimpering and flattening his ears, he stuck one of his paw digits in his mouth in an attempt to comfort himself. It didn’t work very well, which only made him more worked up. He let out a long, soft whine, trying to think of something that would help him feel better.
Mama. He wanted his mama.
But his mama wasn’t here.
Where was mama?
Who was his mama?
Nathan opened his mouth to let out a howl of despair...only to stop mid wail as his sensitive ears heard a familiar sound. The lock to the front door of the house clicking open, followed by a creaking of hinges. Someone was here! But...who was it?
Nathan knew who it was. It had to have been Helen, his girlfriend. She was the only one who had a key to their home. But his other self—his wolf puppy self—had a different idea. He knew that it was Helen. But, that wasn’t what he said when he opened his mouth to call for her.
“Mama!” he barked, his diaper rustling as his tail started wagging behind him. “Mama! Mama!”
And, within moments, his mama had appeared. She was exactly the way he remembered her; an elegant wolfess with a coating of gorgeous, golden-brown fur, a long and fluffy tail that was perfect for cuddling with, and icy blue eyes that sparkled with a deep-rooted ferocity and desire to protect her pup...but they always shone with warmth and love when they alighted upon said pup.
It wasn’t the Helen that Nathan had gone to sleep with the previous night, or had seen this morning before they’d left for work. But she was still Helen. The wolfess version of Helen.
The wolfess that she’d become with the wish that Nathan had made.
“There’s my sweet little puppy~!” Helen cooed, setting down her purse as she strode over to the smaller wolf, her arms reaching down towards him. Instinctively, Nathan reached up to her, his tail wagging like crazy. “Hello, puppy! Happy birthday~!”
“Uppy!” Nathan yipped, his arms wiggling excitedly as he grinned up at his mama. “Uppy uppies!”
“Aww, I've been waiting to give you uppies all day long,” Helen giggled, scooping him up into her arms and twirling him around before hugging him to her chest, something that made him giggle and babble happily. He couldn’t remember Helen ever being able to pick him up like a toddler. Which, of course, because of the fact that he’d been just as tall as she was a little while ago. A fact that seemed very distant and odd, as though it was something that he’d imagined. Well, Helen did always tell him that he has a good imagination. So maybe that was just it! It had all been imaginary! Even if it wasn’t true, it was still fun to think that he’d always been the puppy that he now found himself as. “How’d you like your cake, sweetie~? I didn’t have time to make it myself, so I was hoping that I picked out a good one for you. Aw, you only took a few bites? Do you want mommy to feed you the rest of your piece~?”
Nathan’s eyes glimmered at the suggestion, and he nodded eagerly in response. It was a lot easier when mama fed him his food, and a lot more fun, too! He was pretty sure that was the case when he’d been human, too. He remembered feeding himself, but it just made more sense when mama helped him with it. After all, he was just a little puppy! His paws probably wouldn’t cut it.
So, Helen lifted the wolf up into his highchair, sliding him in behind his tray and having him wiggle his legs until he was comfortably seated on his crinkly posterior. It was a little funny; Nathan didn’t really remember having a highchair, but how else was he supposed to eat his meals? There was no way he’d been able to reach the table if he sat in a normal chair. Sure, he was a big boy, but he wasn’t a tall boy. What was most important was that he was a good boy, anyway. Which he was! And he knew that because his mommy always told him that!
Helen took her seat in a boring regular chair, pulling it closer to Nathan’s highchair as she placed his plate of cake on his highchair. For a moment, the pup was tempted to pick up the cake in his paws and stuff it in his face, but that would probably make him a not good pup, which wasn’t what he wanted to be. To show his mama how good of a boy he could be in the face of an irresistible treat, he stuck his paws down by his sides to keep them away from the cake...although he couldn’t help but lean forward a little with wide eyes, making it very clear what he was excited and waiting for.
Helen giggled, scooping up a forkful of cake and letting it hover in front of Nathan’s face, just inches from his waiting mouth. It was so close, he could almost taste it! And he knew that he’d be tasting it for real soon! Which made him super excited! “Open wide, puppy...here comes the airplane!”
Nathan knew that it wasn’t an airplane, because that’d just be silly. His mommy seemed to think that pretending his yummy food was an airplane would make him more likely to eat it, which was also silly. He’d much rather eat a piece of cake than an airplane! He humored his mama, though—since she was offering his end goal anyway—opening his maw and closing it around the piece of cake. Helen pulled the fork out, leaving the sweet, yummy carob cake behind his lips. It tasted like chocolate, but Nathan knew that it was safe for puppies like him and his mommy to eat. That was why it was their favorite!
The puppy wagged his tail happily as he chewed on the bite of cake, his eyes wide and shining as the wonderful taste filled his mouth, making his tongue and tastebuds do a happy dance. It was soooo yummy! He wanted to eat carob cake every single day at every single meal. He wished his mama would let him. It was way yummier than boring and icky veggies. But at least he could eat lots of it on his birthday!
“Something tells me that you like it, huh, puppy~?” Helen giggled, feeing him another bite before cutting a slice of it for herself. He wanted to eat the whole cake, but he loved his mommy lots, so he was happy to share it with her. Besides, she probably wouldn’t let him eat all of it. It was kind of a big cake for a small pup, anyway. “That makes me happy~”
Nathan nodded happily, chomping up every piece of cake that was put in front of his muzzle as soon as it got there. He couldn’t get enough of the deliciously sweet treat. It always made him think of the time when he’d first tried carob as a younger kid, since he hadn’t cared for regular chocolate very much...of course, that wasn’t really the case anymore, was it? He was a cute little wolf pup now! Which was much more fun than being a regular human. And he had the best wolf mommy in the whole wide world! One who’d make sure he got plenty of cake and other yummy stuff!
The two canines ate their cake for a while, with Helen cooing to her little one now and then. Since it was his birthday, Nathan got a second slice after all! It wasn’t a big slice, but two was WAY bigger than one, so he was happy about it. He would’ve loved to eat more, but even if his mama would’ve let him, his tummy felt really full. So, instead of begging for a third piece, he sat back in his highchair contentedly, tapping his handpaws on the tray after he’d finished his treat.
“All gone!” giggled Helen, finishing off her own slice moments after feeding him his last bites. “Mama doesn’t wanna give you anymore for tonight, because it’ll make your tummy upset. And you’d get pudgy! If you’re a good boy, you’ll get some more cake tomorrow, okay? And who’s my good boy? Is it you? Are you my good boy~?”
“I’mma guh boy!” Nathan yipped, his diaper rustling as he bounced up and down in his seat. “I’mma guhboi! Me me me me!”
“Yes you are, that’s right~!” Helen cooed, wiping his face with a napkin as she lifted him from his chair. “The goodest little boy a mama could ever ask for~ Now, sweetie pup, are you thirsty after all that cake? Would you like something to wash it down with?”
Nathan wiggled his ears, realizing that he was pretty thirsty. He hadn’t had anything to drink since he’d left work...or, rather, daycare. It had been a long and busy day, and he’d really wanted to get home to celebrate his birthday. And once he’d laid eyes on the cake for the first time, that took precedence over everything else, naturally. “Thwirshty,” Nathan declared, smacking his lips for emphasis. “Dwink pwease!”
“Good boy for using the magic word,” Helen praised, planting a kiss on his cheek as she carried him to the kitchen, heading for the refrigerator. As the cool air washed over Nathan’s fur, he saw a few colorful beverages to choose from: juice, cold tea, a few different kinds of soda. Of course, with the exception of the juice on occasion, none of those were a fitting option for a little wolf pup. So, Helen reached up towards a higher shelf, grabbing one of the couple of baby bottles that had been fixed and prepared for Nathan ahead of time. “Here we are~ Drink up, little pup!”
Nathan wagged his tail as the nipple of the bottle was brought to his muzzle. His heart was thumping in his chest as though this was something extra special. As far as he could remember, his mama fed him a few bottles each and every day, so it wasn’t like this was the first time it was happening. Yet, something inside him said the exact opposite—that this was the first time he was drinking from a baby bottle. It was a really weird feeling, but Nathan kind of liked it. So, he closed his mouth around the bottle’s teat, beginning to suckle on it as Helen slowly headed for the living room.
The pup hummed happily as he suckled on the bottle, tasting the cold, faintly sweet milk that filled his mouth a little at a time. He swallowed in between every couple of suckles, enjoying the way it made him feel refreshed on the inside without taking up as much room in his tummy as the cake did. He didn’t know what his mama put in the milk she prepared for him, but she always made it taste really good!
As she fed her baby, Helen lowered herself onto the couch, helping him settle in her lap. She cradled him as though he was a newborn, his head resting in the crook of her elbow while the same handpaw held his bottle steady for drinking. With her free handpaw, the wolfess grabbed the remote for the television and flicked it on. Nathan squeaked as he saw what time it is on the clock above the television; they were just in time for his favorite cartoon!
Sure enough, that was what Helen put on for him to watch as he enjoyed his bottle. Birthday cartoons after birthday cake, while drinking a bottle of birthday milk! And enjoying birthday snuggles! It was enough to make Nathan’s tail wag like crazy, and he did, in fact, wag it like crazy.
He relaxed in his mama’s arms as they watched cartoons together, the milk in the bottle slowly draining into his mouth. Every now and then, he got so focused on the colors and shapes on the television screen that he stopped suckling for a few moments. But his mama seemed to always be attentive, and she would give the bottle a small wiggle each time this happened as if to remind him that it was there.
After a little while, and once the bottle was nearly empty, Nathan squeaked as he suddenly felt something funny near his diaper area. He looked down at himself, letting the bottle’s nipple slide out of his mouth as he squirmed in his mama’s lap. There was suddenly a pressure that was making him feel...itchy? Helen looked on silently for a moment, as if wondering what was ailing her pup, but seemed to understand what was wrong when one of his handpaws reached down and pushed on the front of his diaper, trying to relieve the pressure that had appeared.
“Aww, does someone need to go potty?” Helen hummed, gently shooing his paw away from his crinkly undies. “I guess a lot of that milk went right through ya, huh? Well, don’t worry, little pup. Just relax and let go for mommy, okay? You’re wearing a diaper for a reason. That’s what they’re for~”
Nathan babbled softly, suddenly finding it very difficult to talk. Well, he couldn’t talk in full sentences like mama—which was a little funny, since he understood everything that she was saying, and he just couldn’t replicate it—but he felt shy and embarrassed about this sudden revelation. He did need to go potty. Really badly, actually. Was he always this embarrassed when he had to wet? Like mama said, it was what his diapers were for, and why he wore them. It wasn’t like he could go and use the big boy potty, after all. Could he, though, if he could tell that he had to pee...?
The answer, as it turned out, was no. While he was thinking about this, his body made the decision for them. And that decision manifested itself via a warm, wet patch that appeared in the front of his diaper, swiftly spreading through his padding.
Nathan shivered gently as he started having his accident, sinking further against his mama as warmth spread through his padding. It was a pleasant feeling, like someone had just put a blanket over him at the same time a burden had been relieved from him. He was quite content to lie there, resting in his mama’s arms as he put his diaper to good use, the padding swelling as it absorbed every drop of his accident. And just before he finished wetting himself, he felt the nipple of his nearly drained bottle pressing against his mouth. So, as he dribbled the last bits of his accident into his diaper, he resumed suckling down the remainder of his milk.
“Good pup,” cooed his mama, not budging from where she sat with him on the couch for a moment. He felt her handpaw press against the front of his diaper, and then his rear. “Hmm...I think that diaper can hold a bit more than one little wetting. I know you don’t like getting changies right away, do you, puppy?”
Nathan blushed, shaking his head shyly as the last few gulps of milk disappeared from the bottle and went into his tummy. He didn’t mind getting diaper changes, of course, but he also didn’t mind waddling around in soggy diapers for a little while after he’d used them. They made him feel silly and cute! That was what mama always called him when he waddled around like that, anyway.
Helen pulled the smaller wolf upright in her lap as she set the empty bottle aside, letting him sit his squishy rear on her legs as she wrapped her arms around his belly. Nathan squealed as her handpaws tickled at his sides for a moment, squirming and wiggling about before he made himself more comfortable. His cartoons were still on, so his focus soon returned to them. Sitting with his mama with a belly full of milk and cake, enjoying his favorite shows on his birthday...it was the best thing a pup could ask for!
The two canines stayed like this for a while, enjoying the colorful cartoons and catchy songs as Nathan was slowly rocked back and forth in Helen’s lap. He hadn’t been aware that he’d been dozing off until she adjusted the way he was sitting, making him start as he was pulled back into alertness. He stretched, his jaws opening in a big puppy yawn, his diaper feeling a little colder in between his legs by now.
“Aw, is someone a sleepy pup?” Helen teased him gently, planting a few kisses on his cheek as she bounced him on a knee. “I suppose you didn’t take your usual afternoon nap. So, I'll give you a little choice!”
Nathan tilted his head, curiously looking up at the wolfess, his tail swishing against her tummy. A choice? What sort of choice?
“Option one, you can take a little nap,” Helen said, looking as though she was trying to suppress a sly, playful grin. “Recharge your pup batteries and get a change when you wake up. Or, option two...you can open a couple of birthday presents~!”
Nathan gasped, his eyes going wide, the wolf suddenly feeling very wide awake. Presents! Birthday presents! On his birthday! Even if he’d chosen a nap at this point for some inconceivable reason, there was no way he’d ever be able to sleep if he knew that presents were waiting to be opened! “Pwesents! Pwesents! Pwesents pwease, mommy!” he yipped excitedly, wiggling and bouncing and clapping his handpaws.
“Pwesents it shall be,” Helen giggled, leaving the television on as she set him aside on the couch, standing up and towering over him. “Mommy will go and get them now~ Be right back, sweetie! Don’t go too far!”
“Otay mommy,” Nathan said, nodding obediently as he flopped sideways on the couch, feeling a mixture of silly and excited. Birthday presents! Those were always super duper exciting. He couldn’t wait to see what his mommy had gotten him!
He watched the wolfess’s fluffy tail swishing behind her as she walked towards her room to retrieve his presents. Nathan’s own tail was wagging like crazy as he tried to focus on his cartoons some more. But he couldn’t stop that word from going through his mind again and again. Presents! For him! The absolute best part of any birthday! He was so excited that he could hardly wait! He felt like he was going to—
Grrgl.
Nathan yipped softly, his paws grabbing his belly as it made a funny noise, the pressure from earlier suddenly coming back. It was a different sort of pressure, though...it was more towards the back of his diaper area, and a lot more insistent than when he’d just had to pee. He might’ve been a small pup, but even he was able to figure out what it was that he needed to do now. He blushed at the thought, but like his mama had said, he was in diapers for a reason. And his diaper was already wet, and he’d need a change soon anyway...so, there wasn’t really much of a point in trying to hold it. He probably wouldn’t be able to hold it for very long, anyway. He should probably do it before mama came back, too, or else it’d be even more embarrassing.
Nathan slowly rolled over onto all fours, letting his tail flag up as he knelt on his handpaws and knees. He was struck by another odd sensation of “he’s done this before,” and “well yeah, it’s not the first time he’s used a diaper,” and “so why does it feel so different now?” Lots of strange questions were floating around in his mind. He could see himself, but it wasn’t him—some strange, hairless wolf, if it even was a wolf—going potty in his diapers...and then his mama, but not his mama, comforting him and encouraging him...it felt like he was seeing someone else’s memories, almost. If that was what it was supposed to feel like.
The wolf was so distracted by this confusion that he didn’t even notice he was in the middle of going potty again until he felt the rear of his diaper suddenly sag downwards.
Nathan yipped softly, then gritted his teeth, squeezed his eyes shut, and puffed out his cheeks as he started pushing. “Hmmf...hmmmmmf!” he grunted, his face contorted in concentration as he messed his diaper. It became heavy and warm, expanding outward as he used it the rest of the way, certainly earning that change that his mama had been teasing him about. He’d eaten a lot of cake, and the milk was certainly helping things along...he sighed contentedly once he was finished with having his accident, looking over his shoulder to see how bad the damage was...
And locked eyes with his mama, who had been standing and watching him silently as he’d had his accident. She had a pile of wrapped packages in her handpaws, and an amused grin spread across her face.
“Well, looks like someone just got done making a ‘present’ for me, too~” the wolfess snickered, walking over to the blushing puppy and setting his gifts down on the coffee table. “Phew! And it’s a pretty stinky present, too. Well, I don’t think we can put off a change until after a nap anymore. But...I don’t see any reason why you can’t open your presents before that change~”
Helen giggled as she sat down on the couch again, beckoning the smaller wolf back over to her. Nathan wiggled his ears, his full diaper swaying under him as he crawled over to his mommy, his face hot and ears flat. Mommy didn’t usually let him stay in diapers for very long after he’d messed them...maybe she was giving him a break since it was his birthday? It was super embarrassing, but his mushy padding definitely didn’t feel bad...it wasn’t like he was going to stay like this for a long while anyway, just until his presents had been opened...
He squeaked as he was lifted into her lap, sat right back down there without a moment of hesitation. Helen didn’t seem at all perturbed by the pup’s full diaper, either. She was the one that changed him all the time, so he guessed that it made sense if she didn’t care much about when he had his accidents. He was lucky to have such a patient, loving mama like her. Nathan did squirm a bit as he felt his mess smushing around on his rump, but it was actually pretty easy for him to get used to it. He supposed that made sense, too; he always wore diapers because he wasn’t ready for the big boy potty yet, so he was no stranger to having wet and messy accidents in them all the time. A lot of them happened without him even realizing! He wasn’t sure if those were more or less embarrassing than the ones that he felt happening.
Either way, there were more important things for him to worry about right now. Like the blue-and-silver striped present that his mama had just reached for and set down in his lap!
“Happy birthday, little pup,” Helen cooed, rubbing behind one of his ears. “Go ahead and start opening your gifts~!”
Nathan yipped happily, wiggling in place and smushing his padding around more as he picked up the present with his somewhat clumsy handpaws. After turning it over a few times to try and figure out the best way of opening it, he got impatient and used his dull claws to start tearing it open anywhere. The pretty blue paper was torn to ribbons and shreds, the thin layer peeling away to reveal the gift underneath.
He squeaked excitedly as his first present was revealed. It was a toy car! He was always looking at the model cars when he went to the store with mommy, but she never let him get any of them because they were too small and too hard, and he might hurt himself with them. This car, however, was big and squishy, like a chew toy! And it was bright red, like his mama’s car! The wheels didn’t turn and the doors didn’t open, but that was okay! He could pretend they all moved around, and that made it super fun!
“Car car! Car car!” he yipped happily, proceeding to drive it through the air and along his mommy’s legs, which made her giggle as it tickled her.
“Your very own car car, like you’ve been asking mama for,” Helen hummed, ruffling his headfur. “I thought you’d like that one~ Ready for your next present, sweetie?”
“Nuh! Wanna play car car!” Nathan yipped, wagging his tail as he ran the car up along his mama’s arm and shoulder. He retreated with a squeal and giggle as she tried to take a playful bite at it.
“You’ll have lots of time to play car car later, puppy,” the wolfess cooed, reaching for another gift from the pile. This one was even bigger than the car he’d just unwrapped, and it was making interesting noises as it was brought over to him! He didn’t forget about his car, of course, but he did toss it aside on the couch as he reached for the bigger present, the notion of moving along with his gifts suddenly not seeming like such a bad idea. “The sooner you get through all your presents, the sooner mommy can change your diaper. I love you, but you’re getting quite stinky.”
“Mama stinky!” Nathan countered, but it didn’t stop him from tearing open the new present, reducing the delicate red wrapping paper to ribbons that were patiently brushed aside by his mama. He squealed happily as he saw what the parcel within was; a brand-new toy xylophone! His last one had broken because he’d been a bit too...intense with the concerts he’d been playing on it. And while this new xylophone was still inside a colorful box that portrayed its rainbow of metallic keys, he could hear it ringing and tinging inside the cardboard shell. And, much like with his soft car, he wanted to play with it right now!
“Let’s hold off on that one for just a little while, okay?” Helen said, gently taking the box from him before he could open it up. He whined and pouted, going wide-eyed and flat-eared as he looked up at his mama. “Aww, don’t give me that look, pup. I promise that you’ll be able to play with all of your new toys as much as you want to later! But there are still lots that you need to open before then, okay? Don’t you want to see everything that you got?”
Everything. That word rang in his ears enticingly, making his tail wag and turning his frown upside down. It made it seem like he got a million billion presents for his birthday! And, well, he could see how many he’d actually gotten, since they were sitting on the table right in front of him. But he had trouble counting past four—the amount of digits on one of his paws—so it might as well have been a million billion!
With that sound logic firmly rooted in his puppy mind, he nodded and allowed his mama to take the boxed xylophone from him, eagerly reaching for the next present—and nearly toppling forward off of the couch, but Helen was quick to catch him and move him back further into her lap, not minding the resulting squish that came from his diaper.
The two wolves spent several minutes doing this; Helen handing her pup a present, Nathan opening it up and getting distracted by it for a few moments, until the mama gently pried it from her pup’s grasp to replace it with another one to be opened. The pup opened up all sorts of fun presents: a toy truck that matched his car, a new sippy cup with his favorite cartoon characters on it, and his favorite character from said cartoon in the form of a plushie! There were also a few that weren’t super exciting for him, in the form of new pacifiers and a diaper cover. He didn’t not like them, but they weren’t as exciting as a toy he could play with.
By the time the final package was placed in his lap, the little wolf was starting to feel the effects of his full diaper. It had grown rather chilly and sticky below his waist, and he had begun to squirm and fuss in his mama’s lap. This was the last present to unwrap, though, and then he’d get a diaper change. A change was starting to sound very nice by now.
He wasn’t sure why his mama was giggling as he unwrapped this last package, but he soon figured out why. It was something that would help with the diaper change that was in his near future. Nathan flattened his ears once he realized what the final present was; it was a pack of baby diapers, in his size, but colored bright pink and decorated with hearts and flowers! It wasn’t the first time that his mama had chosen girly diapers for him, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. She loved to make him squirmy and shy, and this was one of the easiest ways for her to do that.
“Surprise! New diapers for the stinky little birthday puppy~!” Helen giggled, standing up and lifting the smaller wolf along with her, expertly supporting him by his mushy rear with one arm as she tucked the package of diapers underneath her other arm. “Happy birthday, lil stinker~ I couldn’t resist playing with you a little by getting you some new pink pampers~”
Nathan huffed and mewled embarrassedly, burying his face against his mama as she held him, feeling quite flustered and squirmy...but he was actually trying to hide a smile, never mind the way that his tail was wagging and betraying exactly how he felt. He didn’t mind it when his mama teased him in this manner. It was all in good fun, and it was one of the ways his mommy showed him how much she loved him.
“Don’t worry, baby; that wasn’t actually the last present for you,” Helen reassured her pup, kissing him on the top of his head as he nuzzled against his mama’s chest, still blushing lots. She’d begun carrying him towards his nursery, his diaper smushing against her arm. “There’s one more gift I have in store for you...but we’ll get you changed first~”
Nathan wiggled his ears at the promise of one last present, glad that a pack of diapers wasn’t the grand finale of it all. He looked up at his mama hopefully as he was brought to his room. His room was just as he remembered it...more or less. He seemed to remember sleeping in the same bed as his mommy a lot of the time, but she was trying to get him to sleep in his crib more often. His crib was big and blue, as was lots of other things in his nursery. The changing table, the wardrobe, the toy chest, the circular rug in the center of the room, and even the walls were all painted and colored various shades of light and pastel blue. He was super excited to add some new toys to the toy chest once he was finished playing with them later!
Still wondering what that final gift was going to be, Nathan babbled softly as he was taken to his changing table, wrinkling his nose at how stinky he was. Maybe his mama did have a point in calling him a stinky puppy all the time. He opened his mouth as she moved a pacifier towards his mouth, knowing how much he liked to chew on them while he got a change. It gave him something to focus on instead of the chilly wipes dragging their way through his fur. He watched as his mommy set the supplies she needed next to him on the thin, plastic-covered mattress of the table: a white bottle of baby powder, a small tube of rash cream, a tub of wet wipes, and of course, the first of the forty pink diapers that he’d unwrapped just a few moments ago. Putting the rest of the open pack on a shelf of the changing table, Helen donned a pair of disposable gloves and got to work.
Nathan looked away as the tapes holding his baby diaper in place were undone, allowing Helen to unfold the soiled garment. She wrinkled her nose at the smell, but tried not to let the smaller wolf see this as she held his legs up in the air, starting to wipe his bottom clean. He shivered as the cold wipes dragged through his fur, making him mewl softly, but he knew better than to squirm around during a messy diaper change. So, he lied as still as he possibly could as his mama cleaned him up, using several chilly, damp wipes to scrub his bottom clean. Once the muck had been cleaned from his fur, the dirty diaper was rolled up and disposed of in the nearby diaper pail, along with Helen’s gloves. The bag within the pail was tied up, and would likely go to the trash can outside very soon.
The pup already felt better with a clean tushie, and he was happy to lie still—now completely naked—as he watched his mama prep a fresh diaper for him. Though he blushed at the sight of the girly pink diaper being unfolded for him, he could feel his eyelids getting heavy. He’d already been nodding off while cuddling with mama on the couch, and the mattress of the changing table was starting to feel pretty comfortable. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d fallen asleep during a diaper change...
Still, even though his pacifier was becoming more comforting by the second as he chewed on it, Nathan staked awake and aware as his mama slid the fresh diaper underneath his clean rump, securing it first around the base of his tail. Then, putting on another glove, she rubbed some of the anti-rash cream around on his bottom and crotch area. It made his tush fur feel nice and cool, and although it was wet like the wipes that had cleaned him up, it was a different, more pleasant sort of ‘wet’. It also helped to coat his rump in a layer of sweet-smelling powder, which Helen poured a plenteous amount over his tush and privates. She always used a little too much during his diaper changes, but Nathan didn’t mind it at all. He loved the way the white baby powder smelled. It made him feel safe and secure...and it helped make his stinky diapers a little more bearable.
Once the layers of cream and powder had been applied, Helen threw away her glove again and folded the front of his diaper up and over his crotch—once again reminding him that it was a very pink, very girly, very bulky baby diaper that he was being put in. He chewed on his pacifier bashfully as his mommy secured the tapes from the rear of the garment to the front, completing his diaper change as she ran her fingers around the leg holes, ensuring that all the leak guards were sitting properly on his form.
“Fnkoo mahmah,” Nathan mumbled, having to battle with sleepiness, his pacifier, and the fact that he was a baby to form something close to a coherent sentence.
“You’re very welcome, little pup,” Helen cooed, lifting the smaller wolf up from the changing table and into her arms once more. She gave his freshly padded rear a gentle pat, a few small clouds of powder puffing from the leg holes of his diaper and making the air smell a little sweeter. The pup giggled softly, wagging his tail playfully in response to the pats...and ended up dropping his pacifier right back onto the changing table as his jaws parted in an enormous yawn, his whole body visibly drooping in its aftermath. Helen giggled, pressing her nose against her little one’s forehead. “Looks like someone’s getting sleepy, huh~? I think it's just about naptime for my little pup. But, if you can stay awake for just a little while longer, I'd like to give you your last present. Is that okay, sweetheart?”
Nathan wiggled his ears, fighting back another yawn and resisting the urge to snuggle up against his mama's chest and fall asleep right then and there. It was very tempting to just give into those sleepy urges and take a nap after all the excitement that he'd had, but the thought of one last extra special present was just far too enticing for any puppy to pass up, much less Nathan. Besides, he didn't want his embarrassing—but very cute—pink diapers to be the last present he opened before naptime. So, he nodded at his mama, rubbing at his eyes with the back of his handpaw. “Wanna...pwesent pwease...mama...” he said sleepily, wagging his tail.
Helen beamed, giving his tush another gentle pat as she retreated from the room, holding him close to her body and making sleep very hard to continue resisting. But, resist it he did, fighting to keep his eyes open and his head from nodding off as he was carried out of his nursery. He looked around curiously as they walked down the hallway, through the living room where the mess of wrapping paper was still waiting to be cleaned up and the toys that were just begging to be played with. But, there didn’t seem to be another present that was unopened and waiting for the birthday pup. Sure enough, Helen continued walking along, heading towards the dining room. The half-eaten cake was still on the table. There were still crumbs on his highchair’s tray. One of the candles had been blown out and set beside the cake.
This was the room where it had all begun. This was where the birthday festivities had started. And this seemed to be their destination.
Helen sat down in her chair beside the table, smiling down at Nathan as she held him in her lap, her eyes full of love. “Alright, pup. This is where you’re going to get your final present of the day. It’s a very special present...and you get to decide what it’s going to be.”
Nathan stared, his eyes wide with wonder, as his mama reached for a second candle that rested beside the cake. It hadn’t been used yet, the wick still unburnt and awaiting a flame. The pup was still tired, but he could feel his heartbeat quickening with anticipation. What could his mama be planning...?
She held the candle in front of him, the blue-and-white stick of wax unlit, the pup’s baby brain telling him to try and take a bite out of it. It did look yummy, but he knew that it wasn’t a lollipop. “There are two things for you to choose from, Nathan,” his mama said, briefly breaking him out of his trance as she said his name. His two minds were suddenly thinking at the same time; he could simultaneously see the world as Nathan, the twenty-eight-year-old working man who shared a home with his beloved girlfriend with whom he shared his ABDL lifestyle, and as Nathan, the infant wolf pup who was taken care of around the clock by his wolfess mama. “I’m going to light this candle for you, and there are two things that you can wish for,” Helen continued, the wolfess smiling gently down at him. “One, you can wish for everything to go back to exactly the way it was before all of this. You’ll close your eyes, and once you open them, we’ll be our normal selves again. We can continue with our lives as though nothing has changed.
“Or, two, you can wish for things to stay like this, instead. We’ll continue to be the wolves we first spoke together as. I’ll be your mama instead of your girlfriend, and you’ll be my little pup instead of my boyfriend. We’ll forget everything about our normal human lives, and we’ll live in a world that we always wanted to belong in...and I'll take very, very good care of you.” Helen kissed him on the forehead, rubbing her free handpaw along his leg. To his ‘normal’ self, it was an intimate touch from a loving girlfriend. But to his pup self, it was the tender affection of a loving mommy. How strange it was, to see things through two different sets of eyes at the same time... “Take a few moments to think, sweetie,” Helen said, rocking him back and forth. “Just tell mama when to light the candle. Don’t tell her what your decision is until you’re making the wish.”
Nathan nodded slowly, staring at the blue candle awaiting his decision. To abandon his old life...to restart everything...to become the wolf pup he’d always wanted to be...it was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. It made his normal self want to curl up in a ball and hide. It made his pup self want to wag his tail and jump for joy. Everything would change, and that was terrifying. Everything would change, and that was exciting. He couldn’t go through with this. How couldn’t he go through with this?
It was everything he’d ever wanted.
It was the only thing he’d ever want.
And if he said no...he’d regret that decision forever.
“I’m ready, mommy,” Nathan said, wiggling his ears. He heard his sentence in two different voices, through two different sets of ears.
Helen nodded, positioning him in her lap so that he could sit upright on his own without sliding down. She reached for the lighter set on the table, the one that had lit the first candle that had allowed him to become a wolf pup in the first place. With the click of a button, the blue candle flickered to life. A tiny flame that, when extinguished, would set the course of the rest of his life. Human Nathan was sobered by the thought, and more than a little terrified that he was about to make such a weighty decision. Would that side of him cease to exist? He’d still be the same person, wouldn’t he...? Wolf Nathan, though, took in the beauty of the dancing flame. It was like a storybook that his mommy would read to him at night. The little wolf puppy who wanted nothing more than to be who and what he wanted to be, and all he had to do was wish really, really hard.
And, as if reading his mind, holding the candle a short distance from his muzzle, his mama whispered in his ear. “Go ahead, pup...make your wish~”
Nathan nodded slowly, taking a deep breath. Even his pup self was starting to understand how serious of a decision this was. Or maybe that was just because of how serious any wish was, in general. Birthday wishes, Christmas wishes, shooting star wishes...they were all very important. This one was just a little more important. He closed his eyes, licking his lips once. Twice. “I wish...that mama and I...can be wolves forever. I wish that this is our new life forever.”
He blew out the candle. And once he opened his eyes, he opened one pair of them. The eyes of a puppy. A puppy staring up at his mommy.
His mama smiled as she set the candle down on a plate, wisps of smoke still curling upwards from it. “You must be super sleepy, sweetie; you’re dozing off in mommy’s lap.”
Nathan wiggled his ears, realizing that his mama was right. He was really tired. And he must’ve been falling asleep, because the last thing he could remember was being on the changing table. They were somehow in the dining room again. As tempting as it was to beg for cake, he really wanted something else. “Nappy time...mama...nappy times...”
“I couldn’t agree more,” the wolfess hummed, slowly rising to her feet and cradling her pup against her chest. “Let’s get you to your crib, sweetheart. You’ve had a busy and fun day today~”
Nathan sank against his mama’s bosom as his eyelids began to flutter, closing slowly as they walked back towards his nursery. He felt warm and safe, cozy and content...exactly how a pup should feel. Exactly how his mama always did, and always would, make him feel.
The pup was asleep before they’d even made it to his crib. But it wasn’t before his mama whispered softly in his ears.
“Good night, little puppy...I love you~”
