Despite being a 'newcomer' for FCW, Denise has been wrestling for close to fifteen years, starting from when she was just 17 years old (she lied in the application papers for enrolling in a pro wrestling school). Although she started her career as a babyface, sporting bright red hair to match her cheery personality, she eventually progressed to change her gimmick to that of a mobster straight from the 1920s and changed her hair color as well. She had always been a devoted fan of the aesthetics of the Roaring Twenties, and even changed her wrestling style from lucha libre into a much more grounded brawling technical style. When Tashira Rucson offered her the contract, Denise insisted on having the contract typed with a mechanical typewriter and her signature done with a glass fountain ink pen.
