I've explored Cartoonia in the 1940s, the 1950s, the 1960s, the 1980s, and the 1990s, but I've neglected the 1970s until now.

It's spring 1972, and here we see a 42-year-old Chanticleer comforting his 5-year-old grandson Anthony after he got into a scuffle with his brother Jonathan while the whole family was out and about in downtown Nashville.

Chanticleer's son William and his wife Michelle took Jonathan aside and doted on him, thinking that Anthony started the fight. Chanticleer, who was tasked with watching Anthony after the fight was broken up, knew that Jonathan really started the fight and that Anthony was only defending himself. That aside, Anthony was still sad that his parents took his brother's side, so Chanticleer looked for a way to cheer him up.

There happened to be a gumball machine right near where Chanticleer and Anthony were, so Chanticleer decided to introduce Anthony to his favorite candy. He got two gumballs from the machine, and started chewing on one. Anthony was intrigued, even more so when Chanticleer started blowing a bubble that's now 18 inches in diameter. Chanticleer's now offering Anthony the other gumball, eager to teach Anthony the step-by-step process of bubble blowing.

This event not only leads to bubble gum becoming Anthony's favorite candy as well, but also lays the seeds of the strong bond that Anthony will have with his grandfather Chanticleer. William and Jonathan admire Chanticleer for his heroism, but Anthony admires him for his deep sense of compassion.
