Another year down and time for another review!
Overall!
A-bit of an odd year this year. The first half of the year wasn't too bad, but then once Summer came around there were several months of just getting really busy between a week-long trip with the family, lots of dental work, work stuff, and more... And then there was August and September with moving into a house from an apartment c.c
Despite all of that, I actually managed to at last reverse the downward trend of completed artings that I've been on over the past few years!
On top of that, I've also been doing A-LOT more writing this year compared to previous years. Between character lore backgrounds to writing up Branch lore deep backgrounds to some long-form RPs with a friend and even to some fun just random stories for myself or friends here and there... Finally really found the fun of it again after years of writing research papers XD
On that note of writing more, I would highly recommend Obsidian which is a piece of free writing software
VDO recommended me to and it has helped me WAY more than I ever expected. Markup language, organization, linking files to each other quick and easy, even frig'n database functionality all in the thing!
As for experimenting with art... I did figure out some ways to speed up my process especially with regards to shading and I've been starting to experiment a-bit with lines of different thickness and even areas especially around the eyes that are all linework rather than shading/colors to achieve the effect.
Looking ahead at the coming year... I want to try to do more doodles and refined sketches as a way to get more art of characters out there and also more art for friends too! Connected to that, I also right at the end of the year started a new idea of putting out a post at the start of the month asking for suggestions of characters from my cast to draw and think I'll keep going with that!
... I also really need to update my character relations diagram and post the ones for the other two universes I have characters in ^^;
Numbers!
As I mentioned above, I finally reversed my downward trend of completed pictures! Up to 44 from 36 and while I didn't have as many grayscale pictures this year and my organization method for sketches was being refined over the course of the year and thus making me lose count, I still got lots done and I'm happy about that ^^
Still well below my 2019-2021 numbers, but I'm working on it!
New lore!
I continued working on the Branches I came up with last year and managed to get several of them good and well established over the course of the year! Amusingly, while working on them and discussing them I also ended up with some fun new possibilities for the Main Branch that I've been looking into integrating.
This year also saw me really diving deeper into the DEEP backstory of the Ynaaverse and the Shards specifically with the introduction of Wazrad which also helped to explain why the world where so much of my cast is from has so dang many Shards on it for some reason. Which also on that note, I finally came up with a name for it! Yiigaara.
I also decided to well and truly establish that each of the ringworlds on Iridalea's tail is home to different civilizations and amusingly has kind-of turned into the "MMO Worlds" ^^;
So one of them is sort-of like the Guild Wars world with races from there and then another is the WoW world and so on.
In a big change for Kyra, I finally settled on her back story and got started on writing it up for real! If any of you remember the very earliest of what I was working on and posting here, you may remember that 'Ascendent Dreams' comic that I stopped working on. Always did kind-of regret losing all the story I came up with for it and how it was going to end and have gone back and forth on it being Kyra's backstory, but this year I finally decided to make it official and gotta say I'm really liking what it's done for her character and her relationship with Ame <3
New characters!
In case it wasn't obvious from previous years... I really like making new characters XD
There's just something really fun about coming up with a new character and figuring out their backstory and how they fit in with the rest of the existing cast and the implications they have for the rest of the lore of the setting!
Some of these were brand new out of the blue characters thanks to random bursts of inspiration, some were adopts, and some were ideas I've been wanting to get to for ages and finally did!
I also snuck in some updated lore and reference posts for older characters (Ynaa and Niikalei especially) that have been needing them and plan to do more in the future! (Vilanna and Rowanne are actually the top two I'm looking at in the near future)
Breaking it down...
- Ynaaverse
-- Aandreas the Absol/Mightyena : Technically an adopt from 2024, I finally figured wrote up his backstory for the Trainerverse and also ended up creating an anthro version of him for the Ynaaverse! The story behind that is lots of fun too as Ynaa and Lyn worked together to let him experience the Ynaaverse and to make things easier made him Ynaa's older brother... Which involved time and reality manipulation and Ynaa is 100% convinced he's always been her brother ^^;
-- Chaarybdea the Sharpedo : The grandmother of Trorse and Rhea's mother and someone who's been in my head ever since drawing Rhea in Lut's outfit back in 2023 with a shark-like grin. Joked that maybe she's got some Sharpedo in her ancestry and well... Yes she does XD She's got a depleted (for now) Shard that replaced a broken tooth and one heck of an appetite!
-- Essalei the Worgen : A Worgen who also lives on one of Iridalea's tail ringworlds and the hired bodyguard of Fizzkilip. She desperately wishes she had a tail (yes I'm still annoyed Worgen don't have tails) and so part of her payment from Fizz is anything that may give her a tail. Rather annoyed that Fizz gets a huge tail when she goes Worgen XD
-- Fizzkilip the Goblin turned Worgen : A Goblin snake oil saleswoman on one of Iridalea's tail ringworlds who ended up accidentally bitten by her Worgen bodyguard (Essalei) and became a Worgen. But when she goes Worgen... Well she ends up really big and has a huge floofy tail~
-- KyHraal the Zoroark : Technically she was from last year, but this year saw her official lore post completed and an outfit too! She's now officially the Goddess of Illusion and a cousin of Kyth and Puszeky.
-- Lithraaea the Delphox/Nidoqueen : A cousin of Kthaarae's and a forensics lab technician and beneficial poisons specialist that is even an associate at the university that Skögul teaches at. She came across a Depleted Shard in a safe deposit box while on the job and this ended up super charging her natural Rivalry ability so that now she always grows to match the size of anyone nearby that is larger than her (in size or proportions). Her natural poison is now also VERY beneficial to anyone that is afflicted by it, making them "swell" larger~
-- Talia the Flareon/Espeon : The daughter of Claudia and a certain Flareon in one of the Branches. She's an ever happy and bouncy gal and a therapist by trade using her warmth and softness to comfort in combination with the telepathy of her Espeon genetics to sus out problems her clients are having.
-- Thymeere the Snivy : The head of the University of Phox du Lac. Rather small given her being a Snivy and gets rather annoyed with Skögul's damaging the university's facilities in spite of the publicity she brings. Toying with ideas to have her exposed to a Depleted Shard as well and her size being tied to her emotional state...
-- Vironika the Kavat/Umbreon : The daughter of Viktoria and a certain Umbreon in another one of the Branches. The Goddess of Disorder considering how she came to exist and not to be confused with Chaos as there is very much a difference between Chaos and Disorder!
-- Wazrad the Zonai : Finally got around to creating the Zonai I've been wanting to create since playing Tears of the Kingdom a-couple years ago! His addition and that of the Zonai really helped to flesh out an area of Ynaaverse lore that has been really vague and helps create another connection to Iridalea's time. Wazrad particularly has helped explain why Yiigara has so many Shards on it which is still an explanation I'm really happy with ^^
-- Zaapel the Kalosian Zapdos : A professional wrestler with a-lot of success under her belt (not to mention a tiny sliver of a Shard in one of her championship belts) who grows some from lots of praise, thanks, affection, cheering, etc... Which is suspiciously similar to what happens with Kyra, if less powerful... Also the cousin of Lyn!
- Trainerverse (shared universe)
-- Antara the Flutter Mane : An adopt from Foxfencer and one of my biggest characters in the setting! She's been around for a LONG time and actually knew another member of my cast (Fysovi) who was cryogenically frozen for thousands of years. An administrator and scientist from that ancient time and now just happily revels in her size that has simply kept growing over all that time.
-- Bolette the Breloom : Another adopt from Foxfencer! Not officially a part of any of my teams in the setting but also sees herself as something of a rival to the main group because she keeps challenging them to fights and they keep beating her.
- Tropeverse (shared universe)
-- Tollantha the Maned Wolf : A rare real world animal based character! Tollantha is tall as her name implies and as a result of some experimental shampoo she now grows larger wherever she is brushed and/or rubbed.
-- Rooke the Kangaroo : Another rare real world animal based character, Rooke was involved in a teleportation accident where she was in a teleporter while there was also a Stretch Armstrong type of toy happened to be in there at the same time for some reason. As a result... Her tail can be stretched pretty much without limit, but when the stretching is done the rest of her body grows to match how much her tail was stretched ^^;
-- Battock the Bat : As you can probably guess from the name, this is the Tropeverse version of Benock. Not entirely sure how it happened, but I've just gravitated towards Benock being a bat in non-Pokemon settings c.c But unlike her Kriggleverse self he is not at all short! (still way shorter than Tollantha, though)
- Kriggleverse (shared universe)
-- No new characters this year, but I did work on fleshing out the backstories of my existing cast!
Looking ahead to 2026... I've got various ideas and possibilities that are in different stages of development.
- Ynaaverse
-- Tethkith the Kig'Yar : Still have a pretty well formulated idea for a Kig'yar gal who's an accomplished salvager who flies around to old scrapyards and the like looking for good finds to sell. Also a friend of Axelia's and often sells her very best finds to her. Thinking that she's actually the one who found the Shard that is now in Axelia's multitool and, much like Lyn was affected by transporting Puszeky's hairbeads, she too was affected. Possibly becoming like a goddess or patron saint of sorts for salvagers. She's mostly done and just need to actually finish her!
-- An anthro Walking Wake who is ancient and very nearly as old as Iridalea. She used to be the Goddess of Innovation before retiring after many many thousands of years in that role. Since then she's wandered the universe reveling in the innovations and creativity of the mortal races. She's also gotten to know Axelia and NOODL well in recent years (was the first to notice the change in NOODL). Also thinking that she's also a very techy lady who loves messing around with new tech, but also with a grandmotherly sort of personality. She very recently came across a Shard, though, and has integrated it into her 'crown' and, as often happens, she's experienced a renewed burst of power and energy and is considering coming out of retirement (though not as Goddess of Innovation since Ynaa picked that up). Design-wise I'm also thinking of an outfit inspired by Purah from Tears of the Kingdom...
-- A Rito character who is part of a space age version of the Rito (Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom style of Rito). No specific ideas for a character yet, but the have an idea where their species saw the various demideities and deities walking on the fabric of space and they wanted to figure out a way to replicate that so they could fly in space like they do in the air. Something they managed to do. The challenge is going to be figuring out how to make a space age Rito with those big ol' winghands and with an outfit that is still strongly reminiscent of the Rito style...
-- An adopted naga Arbok/Alolan Marowak that still needs a name and how/where she fits in.
-- Vehi. Need to actually figure out how and where she fits into the Ynaaverse. Toying with the idea that she and the Arbok/Alolan Marowak are a team of sorts. A silly video I saw recently about Hades being the God of the Dead, not the God of Death put a silly idea in my head that perhaps one of them is the Goddess of the Dead and the other might be either an "intern" under the other or even is an afterlife of sorts... Sort-of going off of an idea of a character that is a universe, but different in this case.
-- A Sneasel rival to Zaapel. Thinking that she would actually be the biological mother of Avi and Avy who had to give them up to the orphanage in a time of her life when she had no other choice.
-- A Loupmoon (Palworld) gal. No defined ideas yet, but definitely a fave of the Pals!
-- A daughter from the future of Lyn and Benock : Actually already has her design done and a rough idea of her personality! Just need an outfit, a name, and a better idea of who she is as a person.
-- A Teladi character. A wandering trader in space.

-- An Archeops named Fysovi who is actually from the distant past and ended up in the 'present' thanks to essentially magitech shenaniganry. Considers Skorgul his rival and favors speed and precision over the brute force that Skorgul is more about. Also has a crush on her to his own frustration. Personality-wise I've been thinking he's sort-of like Revali from BotW.
-- A Rattata variant in this setting named Seras who has a whole backstory and everything already figured out, but now I actually need to design her appearance ^^;
Concluding!
2025 was an interesting year for arting, but looking ahead to 2026 I've got lots of hopes for what I'll be able to create and what I'll be able to write and I'm looking forward to it!

The new house was a very big deal- it alone was enough to justify pacing yourself, in addition to all the rest!
There is QUITE a difference between research writing and furry RP, haha <3 And glad Obsidian's been such a great fit for you!

It's one of the great things about the Branches! In a way they are experimental grounds to try things and learn that "Oh hey this would be great in the Main Branch!"
There really is ^^ And I'm liking how it could be said that the backstory is kind-of the reverse of the original plan when looking at the main universe and her home universe c.c
