im soooo mad guys.
ALL of the black rings i ordered for FC are completely trash.
and all trl has offered to do so far is %15 off or return them.
i need overnight shipping, sent them a letter and called them but probably wont hear any thing until Monday.
break down
i cleaned and sorted through the duds. 130/300 were acceptable
then when opening or closing the rings the color will crack and fall off.
so they are completely useless. T.T

That sucks that the rings were bad...
But, I don't know--if they don't make you send them back, if I were you I'd consider trying to use them to make something. If you look at them from the perspective of wanting them either fully metallic or fully black, they're duds, but if you look at them from another perspective...
Well. I actually think the flaking look is pretty cool--like aged, or weathered or something.
Anyways, I hope they work with you on it, and that everything works out!

have you tried blue budda http://www.bluebuddhaboutique.com thier prices seem higher but they are located outta chicago so the shipping should be less
they will replace them, but i need them to be over nighted, and there fighting me on that.
apparently they just noticed that it was a bad batch so they put up a note about it... and offer a %15 discount.
don't buy them there %100 useless
all my other rings came in great tho so idk wtf happened

Goodie. I already have SOME black in the post to arrive on Tuesday. I hope mine aren't screwed too. X_X I hate it when they do shit like this.
Though mine are saw cuts, so hopefully they'll be okay.
TRL is usually good for their supplies. I've only had one screw up on their part so far--they sent me aluminum in place of stainless steel once, and I freaked out at them. X_X They were good, and refunded me the difference without trouble, though.

Luckily mine weren't ruined. Also, could you tell me what size you used to make this

This isn't exactly related to your issue, but IMO at least one good thing came out of it, which is this photo :P
I'm wondering if you'd let me use it as source material for the photoediting stuff I do. I don't usually ask, but this would be interesting to work with, and I'd credit you of course :P If you aren't sure what I mean, just have a glance at my gallery. I like the shapes and textures in this mostly :3

I've had this issue once with TRL back on some old green rings, about half the bag was bad. Sometimes on the old anodizing this happens, which is why their switching out to the new, shiny anodizing style, better hold.
16g 3/8" machine cut yes? That's the old style and ya, it does happen. They should be good about getting it sorted for you but pressuring them over overnight shipping on what equates to a bag of rings is kinda.. eeh, especially from Canada. Bernice is the one that usually answer's the customer problem emails and she's the co-owner, they are a 'small' company after all. If all else fails I have a TON of the new, shiny 16g 3/8" saw cut rings that you can buy off me at the con if it comes down to that. (really you should switch to saw cut anyway)
Reading through the other comments, don't go with Blue Buddha, they jack their prices WAY up (partially because they hire people to sit there and go through every single ring to make sure it's acceptable) but really you're paying 2x-3x times the price that TRL charges. TRL doesn't go through every ring they have because of the bulk of the orders they have coming in, hell I hear them talk about train cars full of supplies.

that would be extremely helpful, i am out of black completely. id love to buy a few bags from you.
i had ordered 6 bags of black from them in a $200 order, all of the bags are quite bad T.T
i looked around on blue buddha, and there prices are really high T.T, and their sizes kinda confuse me. even if i did order from them i would probably have the wrong size.
just let me know how much you would like per bag and ill have the $, or Paypal it. witch ever you prefer.
btw also loving the new saw cut colors, there really amazing X3 ill have to stock them next time i order.

I don't have mine in bags anymore (I put everything into my bins the minute I get it in) so I'll have to figure that out.
As to Blue Buddha's sizing, they run off an odd naming system but if you look closely the inch sizing is below it (you'd want the T16), I've thought of ordering from them just to see but those prices always make me turn away.
The saw cut rings are also cleaner when closed, especially at the size you work at it makes everything cleaner and won't leave any edges to catch.
