Taken at Pennsic last year... Three weeks without food, sleep or bathing; and that creek is not NEARLY as clean as it looks. (About 15 yards upstream are 30+ enormous, and equally unclean naked people)

nauv's parents always do Burning Man. I've never been. It looks swell, but PENNSIC IS FUCKING AWESOME. If you ever plan on going, send me a note so you don't have to sleep with outcast no0bs.
No kidding! I would never have gone if my buddy wasn't head of our guild.
But last year was my second time there, and I met a lot of 'outcast' attendees, and they all were having a great time, too.
(I have no idea how they place these people; we had to be there the night before to "claim our land"... which has always been the same place, apparently.)

Dude, the Leisure Guild is SO not an SCA group.
We just hang out and be drunk, naked and debaucherous. But we do have fancy costumes. And know a couple people who "fight" or "LARP" and all that.
We're just there to be obnoxious (as is most of the lower end of the park a.k.a. "swampies"). But it's also cool up top. It's like a ren faire with fancy people, stores, restaurants...
It's so much fun. There are camp fires and belly dancing and (ugh) drumming all night long. For two weeks. Until you have dreadlocks and are shitting sugar cubes.
Totally worth it.

Gahh...I've not been in the SCA for over a decade...but did manage to make only one Pennsic. Problem was I was active duty Navy at the time and moving around all over the place. Now that I'm "settled" in NH...I've got to get back in it...mainly because Cowboy Action Shooting is only part year and ammo keeps getting expensive...
