OMG this guy was amazing to make! I loved it, took a bit longer
than expected as it was a totally new thing for me with the dropped crotch
padding but absolutely love how it turned out! =D
He has:
whiskers
3d eyes
crotch/leg padding
moving jaw
webbed paws <-- notice them! they took along time to make
and understand how to make. xD
The tail is attached but he has a second tail if he wants to be a partial.
Also may be a wee bit baggy in the pictures as the model is a bit smaller then the owner. *Also adding a bit more neck as you can see the zipper area occasionally o.o* that will be fixed in a jiffy!

AAaa right, well mostly people just give me there own refsheet, and then maybe show me other fursuits they like *say the style of the feet or how some padding was done or an expression* and I follow it as best I can. but if you really wanted to get a ref off of me for a suit you want me to make I can work that in, it wouldn't be final like, Now you have to get a suit off me! Just more of an idea of what the suit would turn out looking. then you make the final decision =)

Owner Review/Life Story, INCOMING!
What do you think of when you picture an otter in your mind? The face is nice, but it could belong to many mustelids. The fur patterning really follows the same trend there, except perhaps on the face. Really, it is the body type and the tail, with a dash of whiskers. Other artists have done very simple designs with minimal line-work that is clearly identifiable as an otter. No offense to other otters out there, but I think that these features really make the character, and I'd actually never seen one done using those characteristics as a focus. This was a bit sad to me because when I was looking to have a suit commissioned, otter wasn't on the list of things to do because I wanted something distinctive and I'd set the bar very high. I'd commissioned Nexu from
artslave in November 2011, and my BF sprung this commission on me as a gift in April if I remember right.
I suppose when I commissioned this, since I was already having something made, I didn't try to take it too seriously, which I still feel a bit bad for... So, here I was having an otter made, and despite the amazing work Sparky had done before, I really wasn't convinced she'd pull it off. My attention was on working full time, school full time, and my head just wasn't in the game, as it were. I briefly described what I liked, and provided references of
Arito 's body type on Lewis, and videos of Vinn Weasel from youtube. Sparky seemed very agreeable there and looked forward to the challenge. I'd seen all manner of colors on otters, and the only ones that looked good were naturally colored. It seemed like everything non-naturally colored had rainbow anime hair, horns, a halo, wings, stripes, spots, glowing bits, and just generally looked like a trainwreck of independently good ideas, but a chaotic mass all together. But what the hell right? I was going right off that deep end anyway, lets make it blue.
I'd sent Sparky the youtube videos,
Arito 's Lewis suit, and a horribly photoshopped sketch of someone's otter character I blatantly stole from Google (which I only used to show roughly what I'd like in terms of patterning). Of note here, at this stage in the process, I gave nearly complete creative control over the character to Sparky. I figured as someone who has built a bunch of amazing suits, she's in a far better position to tell me what works. I think we only had a few other emails back and forth over the whole process, but each time I needed to talk to her, she responded quickly and positively. Her insights were great as we narrowed colors to actual fur colors. She sent pictures at several stages in the process and even reworked the face to be proportionally wider/fatter. So that about covers commissioning. I should mention that the original target for this was Anthrocon, but I knew I was asking a lot of her, and looking back, I have no idea how this would have fit into the car anyway. I would say this was more me asking her to take her time than anything else.
We received Rime in the mail about a week after Sparky shipped it, which I think is pretty good from NZ. The first thing I noticed was how precise all the lines were and how well done all the sewing was. The whole thing just screamed professional right out of the box. Boxes. It took three, he has quite a large posterior; a "badonkadonk" by some standards. The padding for the tail is sewn in, and the padding for the abdominal area is a single piece of really dense foam encapsulated in I think spandex on the outside and fleece on the inside which makes getting into the suit much easier. The design intentionally restricts leg movement and will force me to like waddle around, which I'm sure will give the BF no end of enjoyment. It would be difficult to travel long distances in, so for those of you considering getting this body design, I would recommend staying at the Con's main hotel or arranging to dress at the con rather than walk to. Expect to be largely restricted to a short area, as moving around will expend a lot of energy, though I've not spent heaps of time in the suit yet to know for sure.
It fit perfectly right off the bat, which was a major concern having something shipped from New Zealand. Shipping him back to have changes made would have been difficult. Between a DTD and measurements, though, Sparky absolutely nailed the sizing, which included room for a Cool Shirt backpack cooling system.
The coloring came out brilliantly, and the eyes will actually follow you across the room and are very expressive. I only have two minor points of constructive criticism... The placement of the muzzle does create a blind-spot directly forward of me, but I'm not sure how else this could have been done do mitigate that with the otter's facial structure, and I'm probably going to rip all the stuffing out of the tail and sew it into an insert that can be removed for washing. I'd like to point out some very interesting pieces of the design as they were really cleverly done. The zipper is exceptionally well hidden using a technique that I'll let Sparky decide whether or not to share, but it is extremely effective and doesn't catch at all on anything. The feet and handpaws have a strip of nylon on the opening that will hold the sleeve/leg open and minimize the seam. The feet paws look and feel durable but comfortable using I believe a slipper base. The webbing on the handpaws is just so well done. Subtle, enough to be overlooked at first, but be a cool surprise upon closer inspection.
This won't be the easiest suit to wear, but it will certainly be heaps of fun. I gave Sparky the impossible, and she pulled it off, grinning all the way. This wasn't something that there is a pattern for, she had to develop a method to pull this off by herself, which really shows her versatility as an artist and problem solver in general. I sure hope that this suit helps to demonstrate that fact and brings more business to a great artist. If anyone has questions on the suit, please post them here and I'll answer within a few days. Thanks again Sparky!

Wow....
Thanks allot for that review!
At first when I saw it I was like oooo shit its big, did i screw up huge at all?! xD
But after reading the whole thing I felt allot better! :D
So glad it looks and fits great for you!
I'm still trying hard to work out the best way to see out of a fursuit,
especially when it has a moving jaw as things get a bit more tricky.
So apologize for the bit hard to see out of vision.
Question though! the tail attached to the body isn't there a zipper on the inside
of the suit that allows you to take out the stuffing?
I really thought I had put one there..if not geez that was a bit silly of me, sorry
about that, o.o
Besides those two things I am very proud on this suit! Love everything about
how he turned out looking and it was a great learning time with padding and I am now
very keen for taking on padded suits! =D
Thank you again for the review ^^ maybe you can even submit it to

I didn't see this till now, sorry for the delay!
This just in, Sparky makes super secret house calls. Clearly, she read my comment on the tail padding not being removable and got on a plane, sneaked into my house as I slept and installed a zipper. That's a better story than me being a blind idiot, so I'm sticking with it ;)
I'll get on the review thingy now. I couldn't then because it needed a 3 month wait time or something, I'll link when done. We're going to furfright in October, it'll be a lot of fun and I'll have pictures :P

O great! so i did install the zipper xD hahha I was really thinking I had but with fursuits having like 5000 process steps I thought I could have missed it. Yes I'm just ever so sneeky >:D Ninga like! barharrr!
And O sweet ^^ with the review thingy ;D
Have fun at FurFright! :D can't wait to see more pictures!

Submitted, just waiting on them to post it ;)
I'm not sure how I missed that the first time. I'll probably still pull out all the polyfil and make a sock-like structure so it can be removed all at once, but that'll be easy.
*checks outside for sneaky Kiwis trying to re-do my tail*

How did you do the dropped crotch for this? I am trying to make a fursuit with the body close to this style and, having never made a fursuit before, need a bit of help. Any advice or tutorials you know of would be greatly appreciated. Love your suits by the way, truly fantastic.
