Bathing suit - aka tinkering with techniques
So this is the result of looking at a photo, referencing a pose, and trying to paint with the light source of the image.
And I couldn't be any more disatisfied. I REALLY do not like this picture. At all.
Tartii's head looks huge, the shading looks....akward to me after I tried something a little more painterly....I just cant stand it. x-x All my hatred for this.
I wanted to try something more appealing for the "Furs in Bathing Suits" portfolio I wanted to try, but good god this was a disaster. Just....something about the over all coloring and everything is gawd awful.
I tried to do just grayscale, then add the colors and even that was awful. I dunno, I should probably stick with what I know.

I think it looks good. The head does NOT look overly large to me. Okay, maybe a teeny bit, but it's an issue with the shoulders being a smidge too small (or just LOOKING that way due to the way you posed), not the head itself, i think.
As far as trying new things goes, you're not gonna be BRILLIANT the first time around. Look at any artist. We all started out at 3 or 4 years old drawing scribbles, so perservere! You'll get better at it with practice!

grey scale is the harder of the mediums to learn... sinces its the easiest to see mistakes. keep trying i would suggest smoothing it out with the blur tool i get you wanted more painty... but well the human body to be apealing is usually smoother when female... she looks a tad older then she is with the rough blacks and whites.
her hips and thighs look really good. and her head is properly sized according to the rule of 8. her face imo is to wide. and no chin...
good things about it is the lightsorce is good the style you tried is a overall success and like i said the hips and thighs are well done and over all the anatomy is spot on so WOO

greyscale may seem easier but it's actually one of the hardest methods of shading out there, but it IS the most accurate since it's easy to over look a mistake on color but not on gray scale, it just takes more practice, and sticking to what you know is not the right way to go about improvement, trying something new everyday is actually a good, even if painful experience and I encourage it. (I don't even show half the new things I try)
Well if you're trying something new, how can you realistically think you'll be good right away? it's whether ya work at it or not. No work, no improvement.
working in areas that make you a little uneasy isn't a bad thing- it's generally good for you. and you don't always have to show what you do.
Start with smaller things that you don't think you'll want to be the most epic art piece you've ever done (if that makes sense..?) like, draw up something you don't really care bout and use if for practice. Doesn't work? Toss it out-- better yet, keep it to remind you.
Might work~
I still enjoy the piece though~
