November 29, 2012 - First tattoo applied at Redemption Ink in Moscow, ID
This symbol, the badge of the Silvers from Mercedes Lackey's book The Silver Gryphon, is one I've wanted as a tattoo probably since I completed the book maybe 4 years ago now. I finally got it inked into my skin for the rest of my life. Still very fresh as this picture was taken 8 hours after the last ink was put in. Pretty happy with it so far, it just looks a little distorted from me holding my camera up to take this picture.
The purple fade on the outside is not bruising or red, that is actually a purple "glow" that I wanted and it looks alright now. Have to wait 2 weeks or so to get a real idea of what it will actually be like color-wise. I think the best part about all this is that it was free. The only thing I have to do to basically earn it is pass out the coupon booklets the gal gave me to all my fraternity brothers and that's it.
Probably won't get any more tattoo work done on my body. I feel this one is enough even if this one didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would have.

A pal sent me the link to your picture and it looks like a very good job. I showed it to Misty a little while ago and she thinks it looks great. Please wear it knowing you have our blessing and approval!
You are in good company there; the road manager for Neil & Tim Finn/Crowded House/Split Enz has one like yours, and he turned on Eddie Vedder and Johnny Marr to The Black Gryphon (the two biggest trees on Finn Station are named Misty & Larry). The Silver Gryphon badge and credo was adopted by a special talents high school in the Seattle area (they brought an "honor guard" to meet us at one of our library appearances in Redmond---it was awesome.) We've seen it on custom cars and a rat rod, on aircraft, and even on an Abrams tank.
We put a lot of hard work into what we do and we're humbly proud to see that it resonates with people in such good ways. My big thrill lately was seeing the audience reaction to the Great Eagles in the last 20 minutes of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I think that my dear Mina may be the most famous eagle in the world now. :)
We hope your days and nights will be filled with smiles and wonder.
Yours,
Larry Dixon

Oh my goodness! I would love to attend Anthrocon, but I don't think things will play out in my favor to attend this year. Still lacking employment doesn't help any and with it being so close finding a room would be difficult to say the least. Oh I wish I could go. I hope you have a terrific time while you are there and get to meet all your fans on the furry fandom side, especially the gryphons. ^v^
