I fancied making a solid headed doll so this is the sculpt for the head. It's a little wonky (some of it is the lighting, some is asymmetry in the sculpt) but I'm still learning this whole sculpting thing, hopefully it will look OK once cast in plastic and painted up. The goal it to make a poseable, button jointed cloth (not fur) body which can be dressed up, and it will also have cast hands and feet
This piece is around 5-6 inches tall from the bottom of the base, the final doll height should be around 14-16 inches
Made from WED clay on a metal armature with plaster base, The pedestal won't be present in the final casts, it will look like a classic porcelain dolls head.

Thankyou!
I've taken a lot of inspiration from your soft bodied dolls and those of other people, but I didn't want to slavishly reproduce something in the same style as my first piece (though I'd like to do a cute floppy furry doll later if this one works out). This is mostly inspired by a wonderful Etsy doll maker who does ceramic headed cloth bodied animal dolls, which don't seem to be that prevalent in the furry community, so I'm trying to bring them here. fingers crossed it all works

What's the etsy maker? I'd love to see what they are doing!
I want to experiment more with different styles of dolls - I have some books of art dolls and making dolls and there are just SO many ways to make things, its so exciting!
I'm really pumped to see how this turns out! You are mega talented and its exciting to see you do a doll - I'm beyond flattered that you find my work inspiring, jeez!

http://www.etsy.com/shop/doters?ref=seller_info is the store
http://www.etsy.com/transaction/35431983? is the kind of body I'm going for, hopefully. Except the feet and hands are boar like hooves, not the more human like feet and hands this artist creates.

I've had a similar pedestal-sculpt for a wolf head hanging around for months now, even got that one to the mold stage but haven't gotten around to making a cast yet (also making hands and feet, unless I want it to be a pig-wolf)
Question, when you made your cat, did you do the head solid or as a slush cast?
