You know people think Will communicated with lights via the upsidedown because any normal human can. Disagree- we see specifically Joyce making lights - shine when she's in the upsidedown (not Hopper).But, I think they showed Joyce's footsteps not hopper's affect the lights- since like Will and El she's also a psychic (probably premonition).
We also saw how Mike and the others couldn't contact Will (who was in the upsidedown). They needed El to find the right station and frequency of a radio- to contact Will (who is in another dimension) . But (without EL) WILL & JOYCE STILL COMMUNICATED VIA PHONES (despite being in different dimensions- not perfectly but still) .
So what makes it even more interesting is jonathan &joyce could sense and talk to eachother through dimensions (without any tech)!!! We specifically see Hopper not hear Jonathan's voice- only joyce heard it ! And steve/nancy assume the lights (Joyce affected) were the monster. And jonathan says he doesn't think so. Whether he heard joyce's voice or only just sensed her , or both, is hard to interpret- but its still significant /suspicious since no one else sensed it was joyce on the otherside. In this scene, only joyce and jonathan sensed and or could communicate with eachother - despite being in different dimensions .
We see how the monsters but also all the other psychics affect lights- El , kali, and terry. SO YES I THINK WILL& JOYCE & maybe even jonathan are psychic.
We even have the s2 scene of El following the flickering lights Terry is causing- parallel the s1 scene of jonathan following the flickering lights joyce is causing. Plot twist- cause all 4 characters in these scenes (mother and child) are psychic.
Joyce in s1 called herself a witch , while in castlebyers . In s1 Will's castlebyers' password is "rhadagast'- a lord of the rings wizard. And Jonathan in s1 had a poster of rimbaud a self proclaimed "seer". It just ...makes sense.
Also since Duffers like stephen king... is all this a reference to the fact in his stories psychics have the "shinning " (like lights shinning )?
I guess you could argue maybe jonathan remembered the whole communicating through the lights discussion. But I still find this whole s1 scene suspect.

Thinking more about the rumour if how Bruce Wayne acquired his two eldest boys because they both are carbon copies of him and everybody at first thinks that Bruce fathered them with the same woman on the side but for some reason didn't marry her or couldn't for some reason but then...
Then Superman flies into Gotham to rescue Bruce and the kids. And everybody is like, "wait a damn minute" because while Dick and Jason are copies of Bruce, they do sort of look like... And Superman is very intimate with them, hugging Dick and crouching down to talk to twelve year old Jason who looks a little wary and then there's Bruce. There's Bruce, who is smiling, not that ghastly social smile or that flirty smile but something real, and he looks so comfortable around Supes and... Did Superman just brush something off Bruce's Wayne face? Immediately rumours start spreading and Gotham has a new reason to loathe Big Blue from Metropolis:
