okay i know we joke and jape about cameron’s perpetually nameless dead husband but. it is important to me that everyone understands this was a deliberate stylistic choice. it wasn’t bad writing or an attempt to devalue cameron’s trauma or whatever (both real arguments i’ve seen!); it was a conscious decision. it doesn’t matter what his name was, or what he looked like, or if he was sweet or smart or even if he loved cameron more than anything else in the world. it matters only that cameron married him, and that he died young—that’s what matters to cameron, and so these are the things we are told about him because he is only important in the context of cameron and how he affected her. if canon added any extraneous details about him it would only detract from his symbolic value. it would turn him into a character in his own right when he isn’t supposed to be one. sometimes less really is more, you know?
