ive been thinking about season 5 waayy to much and i realized something. it seems like all of the non-white characters in stranger things get unsatisfying endings.

lucas gets reduced to maxs boyfriend and practically doesnt have any personality traits other than “i miss max :(” all season (maxs character gets the same treatment) and in the epilogue, while other members of the party get personal endings of their own, lumaxs ending is just that they love each other. thats it. not to mention that the writers forgot lucas’ dnd class (i believe he was a ranger in season 1 and in s5 hes a knight).
next up erica. i feel like she got very little screen time in season 5. she had the scenes with mr clarke and the turnbows but other than that shes quite sidelined, which is really sad since i adore her character. its crazy to me how holly (who we know nothing about) is practically the main character of season 5 and erica who we have known since season 2 is just a side character. i know that erica had quite a big role in s3 but definitely not as big as hollys in s5 (im not trying to hate on hollys character but its hard for me to understand why in the final season of their show, the writers would give one of the main storylines to a practically unknown character since it would mean more time spent on establishing who she is as a character and less time of resolving already exisiting subplots and arcs). im comparing erica to holly because theyre both sisters of the main group that started off as background/side characters. it might just be a coincidence that the white girl becomes one of the main characters and the black girl doesnt but i dont really believe in coincidences. also the fact that erica is only briefly shown in the epilogue and doesnt play dnd with them (it would be a cool addition) tells me that the writers dont think shes important enough to get closure.

another character that got treated like absolute shit by the writers is kali. they only bring her back to create tension between hopper and el. she suffered just as much as el but her suffering doesnt seem to matter much. shes allowed to die alone in the upside down and even in mikes story (or reality i dont really follow whats going on in the epilogue) el gets out and has a chance at a peaceful life (solitary but peaceful) however kali doesnt.

not to mention all the side characters whose stories are never resolved. what happened to sullivan?? if i remember correctly he survived vecnas attack, so where is he? how come dr kay suddenly starts giving out the orders?? sullivan has been leading (?) the army since season 4 and has been shown to be a big threat to the gang and somehow after they kill vecna they grt off easy?? then theres chief powell who was the chief of police after hopper and in the epilogue suddenly hopper becomes chief of police after being presumed dead for like 3 years?? i know that these two are side characters but i still find it kind of suspicious that the black side characters are forgotten and replaced with white people??? honestly at this point im not even surprised at the duffers’ bigotry. theyve shown time and time again that they dont care about their POC, female and queer characters
