a common throughline in shit i like is understanding how and why systems work and fail. i do my best to have unique and blockable tags per fandom. popular tags include:

🎬 1946: Lizabeth Scott in “The Strange Love of Martha Ivers.”

Her sultry looks won her modeling assignments as a teenager and she was understudy to Tallulah Bankhead before coming to the attention of Paramount Studios who put her under contract.

She was widely considered a prominent femme fatale and was known for her roles in numerous film noir movies of the 1940s and 1950s.

The Hiveworks Artist Guild has released a public statement alleging years of labor abuses, financial mismanagement, and misconduct at Hiveworks at the hands of Xellette “Xel” Velamist and Isabelle “Isa” Melançon. Read their full statement HERE

I was one of the flagship comics on Hiveworks (I think the first in the sci-fi category) and before I signed on with them, I put restrictions in my contract on how much say they could have on Trying Human. I feel like this saved me from quite a bit of pain in the long run but TH was largely ignored by the powers that be in favor of other comics that “played ball”.

I didn’t let them touch my books, kickstarters, merchandise, or the story itself. I was assigned an editor one time and decided to throw them a bone by letting them look over Volume 3, which was about to be published. They seemed disturbed by the content and didn’t work with me past that. I’m not blaming the editor but there seemed to be a lack of professionalism happening in the back end; either the editor didn’t understand the job or they weren’t prepared by the higher ups for the kind of comics they’d be reviewing.

The only other major interaction I had with HW was after a convention where they were holding a booth. I sent them a case of my books to sell and promote. A large book-to-movie talent agency scouted my work via this event and following my contact with them, I emailed Xel to thank them for their hard work. I recieved a very terse and strange email about how upset they were that these people contacted me. The whole exchange was very odd and I felt like they didn’t want me to make any professional contacts outside of HW. It makes me wonder how often they were contacted by outside agencies to scout work and were turned away. I really hope that none of their authors have had their careers kneecapped by their time as part of Hiveworks.

How you can help me:

I feel like I’ve largely made it through unscathed but the website where TH is currently hosted may need to go to a different site eventually. In the past year I’ve lost two pets to age and admittedly have been very depressed. I don’t really have the emotional bandwidth to deal the changes that need to happen. If anyone would like to reach out and help me with a potential site move, it’d be much appreciated. The backend that TH uses right now is completely foreign to me (I basically only know how to upload pages) so any assistance would be much appreciated. 💕

*gathers all of the people in the world who write the number 7 with a little dash in the center of it so I can study them like little critters and find out what makes them do that*

There’s actually a lot of history regarding the development writing systems and why there are different visual representations of numerals,

but the short answer is: it’s regional, and you probably picked up how to make your numbers look based on your parents or your primary school teachers

I do it out of spite because in grade school a kids detective story identified the culprit by saying NO American wrote their sevens with a line and I thought that was super flimsy evidence and it made me so mad I started putting a line through my sevens so the fictional detective would be wrong and then kept doing it for several decades since.

I do feel one can’t underestimate the “elementary school child taught themselves how to do this Out Of Spite” crowd
