Setting midi channel for SquishBox

Is there any way to fix the midi channel for the Squishbox?
I have two Squishboxes, and want to connect them to the same keyboard, but select from the Squishbox which is controlled, or split the keyboard to play one from the lower keys and one from the upper keys.

I'm coming to realise that the midi channel is set for each patch in the bank.yaml file for each bank. Is this correct? Seems very flexible, but way complicated. It would have been a lot easier to assign a dedicated midi channel for the box, set up in the SquishBox.yaml, and then with the ability to overwrite the channel per patch using the bank.yaml file.
