Using Package Filter Ignores Some Fields

Describe the bug
We are trying to do basic reviews and exports of our Installed Packages or Managed Packages. When we pick the Package in the Home screen and then click the "Apply 1 change in the app... button, we are expecting any Objects, Fields, and really any related data to be shown on the various tabs. What we get now are empty tabs with 0 rows returned.

To Reproduce

1. Pick any Package in the Package picklist.
2. Click "Apply 1 change in the app...
3. Leave all other items as defaults.
4. Click the "Objects, OWDs, Fields and Validation Rules tab.
5. Nothing is displayed in any tab, Object Documentation, Org Wide Defaults, Custom Fields, Validation Rules.
6. We are expecting the various items from the managed package to be listed in the output.

We have also noticed that when selecting a Package, the picklist suddenly clears itself and changes to "All packages".

For me this is working as expected.
The OWD will list only the object that belongs to the package you selected.
If the package you selected does not have ay custom object then nothing to show in OWD list !

Same for the other tabs.

i am not reproducing the same with a package containing a custom object.

So this is interesting. I re-read your comment and OWD is working. Custom Fields does not populate. Page Layouts is working. So I think the problem I'm having is just on the Custom Fields part as that is what I am interested in.

I think i might see the issue.
the app is listing "only" the custom fields that you can change on your side as a system admin.
so not listing custom fields from managed package for instance.

let's double check this (before we think of a way to solve your use case in the app!)

try to run this query in the developer console or salesforce inspector:
-> check the box "tooling"
-> query:

SELECT Id, DeveloperName, EntityDefinition.QualifiedApiName, ManageableState
FROM CustomField 
WHERE EntityDefinition.QualifiedApiName like '%field%trip%'

Org Check is only listing the fields that have ManageableState = "installedEditable" or "unmanaged"
So all the fields that have ManageableState = "installed" won't be listed in the app.

If it's the case, then we can move forward to see how we can either expand by default the list (and maybe change the rule when fields can't be updated) or have a setup/filter somewhere that controls that behavior!

Hey @VinceFINET,

Your assumption was 100% correct. The fields are coming back as "installed" for the ManageableState.

So my use case here is to find out if any of the values are "Referenced in" anything like a Page Layout, an Apex Class (that we made), a Flow (again that we made). We are trying to find out how to best plan an uninstall a managed app and also how to best manage a managed app. Thinking about page layouts, and Reports, and Apex code, and Flows.

I have put your enhancement in the next release (should be on the AppExchange around january 2026).

In the meantime, i will show you how to perform the same with manual queries.

Starting point is your list of custom fields from the package.
Like in your screenshot i see the list of field ids: [ '00N47000003rR4wFAF', '00N4z000003rR4xEAE', ... ]

To list the dependencies of these fields (that Org Check is not considered.. yet!) you should do a SOQL query (using Tooling API).

Here is an example where i put only two custom field Ids but you could add more (there is a max but let's try like 20 at first, then 100!)

SELECT MetadataComponentId, MetadataComponentName, MetadataComponentType, 
        RefMetadataComponentId, RefMetadataComponentName, RefMetadataComponentType
FROM MetadataComponentDependency 
WHERE RefMetadataComponentId IN ('00N47000003rR4wFAF', '00N4z000003rR4xEAE')
OR MetadataComponentId IN ('00N47000003rR4wFAF', '00N4z000003rR4xEAE')

This will give you where these fields are used and what they are using.

If you are only interested in where there are used remove the last statement "OR MetadataComponentId IN ..."
