how to get 240p by cmdline.txt?

Hello!
Could you explain how to get progressive scan (240p) by this "new" method cmdline.txt?

Ok, i add vc4.tv_norm=PAL60 line to the cmdline.txt and get true colors with 60fps ( like with tweakvec).

But i don't sure understand what make with video=Composite-1:720x480i,tv_mode={mode}....
if write video=Composite-1:320x240p,tv_mode={PAL60} ( instead line vc4.tv_norm=PAL60) - i don't see any difference and get back wrong colors

So, i want to know is there a method to make progressive by cmdline.txt without method with adding line sdtv_mode=16 in recalbox-user-config,txt cause now in new recalbox releases line sdtv_mode=16 make wrong resolution

You can get progressive video by specifying 720x240 instead of 720x480i (or 720x288 instead of 720x576i for 50 Hz) in the video= argument.

However, there are some caveats:

• It only works on Raspberry Pi Foundation's version of the kernel, not the upstream kernel. On the upstream kernel it's still possible, but requires specifying custom modelines (e.g. using xrandr --newmode) so it's not feasible at boot time.
• The framebuffer will actually be 720x240 / 720x288, so the image proportions will be stretched beyond sanity (e.g. icons on the desktop will be ~twice as high as they are wide when they're supposed to be square). This is in contrast to the firmware-based progressive mode that always uses a 720x480 / 720x576 framebuffer and discards every other line for progressive mode.

That last caveat means that you'll need to set some custom scaling in your emulators or whatever you're running to get the picture look right (again, in Xorg you can use xrandr --scale or xrandr --scale-from to do something like that). I proposed a workaround (see raspberrypi/linux#4636) - that didn't get much traction. That's because the general attitude in kernel development is that the kernel shall provide the minimal groundwork for things to work and let application software handle the quirks - basically, in this case, "here's how progressive mode looks in hardware, the applications need to deal with it".

The upside is that if you get things working and looking right with the 720x240 mode, it will also work on Raspberry Pi 5 because it also supports this mode in essentially the same way.

I have no idea whether Recalbox can be made to work sanely with such a resolution. It might make sense to raise an issue in the Recalbox project if not.

Well, I've delete line vc4.tv_norm=PAL60 and write there video=Composite-1:720x240,tv_mode={PAL60} - correct?

but is still looks like interlaced with default wrong colors . Looks like this command just didn't work or i do some wrong. The only one effect that i can see with line video=Composite-1:720x240,tv_mode={PAL60} - is wrong resolution at recalbox boot screen, but after that in menu or in games itself resolutions looks correct....

There is no PAL60 setting for the video= argument. The proper format would be video=Composite-1:720x240,tv_mode=PAL - that should give you progressive 240p at 60 Hz with PAL color.

However, as mentioned in the README, this sets the mode for the initial text console only, and there's no guarantee that this change will be respected by any GUI that starts afterwards.

If this doesn't do what you want, I recommend you to raise this issue within the Recalbox project.

Ок, I've tried, but it still no effect! Only that i've got is wrong-resized boot screen of recalbox, but in recolbox's menu it's fine and in games it is fine (but still interlaced) how was it before that, but with wrong ntsc colors ( like was without tweakvec) .

• it's looks like more that command doesn't work or i do something wrong ( just replaced line "vc4.tv_norm=PAL60" by line "video=Composite-1:720x240,tv_mode=PAL" in cmdline.txt)

If this doesn't do what you want, I recommend you to raise this issue within the Recalbox project.

I would recommend you switch to Lakka and their 240p community build. It already has the workaround @kFYatek mentioned included and works out of the box.

As I understand, they suggest use original pal, not pal 60 (video=Composite-1:720x576@50e, video_refresh_rate = "50.08")
And no words about progressive mode there are.
