When a repo's specific branch is protected, I can still first fork it, and then commit to the new repo, and finally merge the changes to the original repo and the protected branch. The branch is not protected.

I would really like this feature. The protect branch functionality is only half worthewhile when you can get around it by creating a Pull Request and merging it even without permission on the branch it's being merged to.

Hi! I noticed this issue which to me is very important. Since this seems to have been reported a long time ago, is there any update or a workaround?
