recently my friend’s comics professor told her that it’s acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can’t generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister’s screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won’t be able to generate a script that’s any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It’s only ever the jobs we’re unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don’t.

Hey who’s got the tweet from the guy who figured Elon Musk, specifically by name, knew what he was talking about until the moment Musk opened his mouth about something the tweeter knew about already?

One of life’s great ironies is that almost everyone who makes the active decision to not have kids would probably be way better at raising a child than all the people who just kind of have children because it’s what they think everyone is supposed to do

Like genuinely if you’re like “I don’t want kids because of the financial strain/the commitment/the irritation I would feel/the possibility of traumatizing them/whatever reason” you instantly demonstrate to me that you 1) understand the realities of parenthood and 2) believe that children should be treated with at least a base level of respect and compassion. Meanwhile everyone who’s like “I want kids because I don’t want to be alone” “I can’t wait to dress up my babies” “I won’t raise my children to be soft” may as well be talking about Neopets for all the fucks they seem to give about kids

the other day i saw a tiktok of a woman talking about how her hyper-militant abusive parents would sometimes punish her by “taking away her name” and referring to her as a prisoner number. genuinely terrible stuff, obviously. but i skimmed the comments and. listen. i truly DO NOT mean to dunk too hard on this person, like they could be a kid or something, but.

A screenshot of a TikTok comment that says "This is really insane??? Like if you read Guardians of Ga’Hoole (I was a weird kid), giving prisoners numbers instead of names was used to take their identity away and make them compliant. This is like really really bad” A filter has been added to the screenshot to make it appear to be underwater.ALT

just. breathtaking. imagine if your primary reference for the concept of the un-personing of prisoners was (check notes) a book series about owls.

This is why it’s important to Include stuff like this in fiction, especially ya fiction. It can be a lot of sheltered and/or indoctrinated children, in the case of a lot of rural “Christians”, first introduction to these types of concepts in a way they can understand.

I don’t think there’s anything weird or shameful about it. Knowledge is knowledge, regardless of where it came from.

logically-asexual:

some things i hate:

  • youtube playing ads immediately after a video is over, not letting me rewind what i was watching until they’re over.
  • all social media apps having this tiktok dash structure where as soon as a short video is over it automatically scrolls down to another one, algorithmically chosen.
  • streaming apps moving the thing im watching to a tiny corner and recommending more things as soon as the end credits begin, and i have to opt out of the next movie/show starting under a short timer.
  • streaming apps doing the same thing also after i finish watching through the end credits, not letting me sit with a blank screen for a little while until i decide im ready to move on.

let me breathe, you know?
