I'm sorry WHAT
'lazy people don't feel guilty about not doing anything' is insane to me and I have been trying to make my brain believe it for a long time, it shocked me to my core when I first heard it
An important corollary to "if you were faking your mental illness, you could stop whenever you wanted."
Something that get me everytime I see this scene is how happy everyone is to see Elphaba. Not just Glinda, not just Fiyero but the four of them. They were waiting for her and they're so happy to see her. And she's so happy to see them
It make the event of wicked for good hurt so much more, because they really all were friends and they all loved each other and now they all lost each other
no bc ill never fucking get over this face and i wanna cry every time i see it. he looks so young and timid and scared here. like for every other moment they showed his face in the trap door reunion hes smiling or making light of it or just happy to be with elphaba again after being so worried for so long and doing everything he could to protect her and get back to her but. there's this moment where elphaba doesn't say anything as she takes in what her spell as done to him. and you can see that doubt set in as he starts to worry that she doesn't want him like this (just like he worried about the whole time he was traveling with dorothy trying to get back to her but had to convince himself would never happen) and. the smile falls away and he's terrified. there's a silent "well what do you think of me now??? do you still want me??? please still want me" in his face but his eyes are SCREAMING it as he looks at her because he's so so so so scared of elphaba being repulsed because he's not handsome anymore and oh im so sick
"I've never met a picky eater of color" very much does feel like a pretty benign example of "people of color are cool, white people we uncool" type of racism because I think every culture has their own version of "chicken strips and fries" it's just that people aren't going to clock "curry and rice" or "miso buttle noodles" as being "safe foods" because their "ethnic". whatever that means.
out ever scene in for good, this is one i probably think about most
i guess it just stuck out to me how fiyero tried so hard not to look elphaba in eye as he was telling her go to safety and leave him behind. most likely because he knew what they were gonna do to him and he didn't want the last time they see each other to be so sorrowful. but it was him actually looking her in the eye that convinced her to go
Fun fact: if you, as an adult, tell miserable children that their youth is the best that life will ever be, and that it's all just downhill from there, there's a percentage of them who will hear this and think "well, I guess I better kill myself before that happens." And a certain percentage of those will proceed to do that and succeed.
Anyway what I'm saying is that any time you feel tempted to say that, you should instead consider shutting the fuck up. Just because you peaked at 16 doesn't mean anyone else did. Most peoples' lives get better than that.
Annabeth’s hubris showing in the way she thought she tricked the sirens only for them to trick her back by showing her mother finally being proud of something she’s done, whew pjo writers you never let me down
the way i was doing laps around my room at multiple different moments because, even though i read the books and know what happens, they STILL manage to suprise me. absolutely astonished, no notes fr.
It's funny how Percy's priority was Annabeth and Clarisse's was the fleece, but it was Percy who ended up confronting Luke for the fleece, and Clarisse who fought to protect Annabeth.
It's wonderful how the series establishes these dynamics and motivations within the team and allows them to reveal more about themselves than that.
Because yes, Percy would sacrifice the world if it meant saving someone he loves, but at the same time, he doesn't actively want the world to be destroyed, so when the opportunity presents itself to be a good person, to be a hero, but without putting the people he loves in danger, he seizes it.
Because yes, Clarisse is a camper trained to prioritize the success of her battles over the risks and, to some extent, the lives of those around her, but at the same time, she is loyal and cares about those who fight alongside her, so if she finds an opportunity to help an ally without sacrificing the success of the battle, she doesn't hesitate to come to their aid.
The choice to balance Percy and Clarisse's strengths and weaknesses was, for me, the highlight of this season in terms of character dynamics.
to succeed in adult friendship you must remember the key tenets of child friendship:
successful examples from my travels:
of course these can be mixed and matched. most activities are enhanced by Snack Time if your friend targets enjoy breaking bread together.
and one begets the other. if you Play Pretend with someone for long enough they may eventually tell you about Toys they have and if you want to play too they'll probably let you. if they're nice.
life can be lonely when we live in separate boxes and worry about money all the time. this is what makes friendships hard, not growing older. but the antidote to isolation is connection, and the oldest wisdom we ever learn: share your toys. share your games. share your snacks.
a reminder all of us (including myself) could use
maturity in fandom space is understanding that people will have their own characterization and interpretation of the fictional characters you love, sometimes you will see their opinions on your favorite fictional characters that you don’t agree with or outright believe is wrong, but instead of getting into an argument with them or insulting them, you choose to scroll past things you don’t like and mind your own business. it’s all play pretend anyway. I promise you it won’t affect your life in any way, shape or form if a random stranger doesn’t sympathize with a misunderstood villain you love (and I say this as a villain lover who loves and sympathizes with so many misunderstood villains)
let’s keep fandom a kinder and less toxic space.
Too much movement makes your joints hurt and too little movement also makes your joints hurt. This would imply that there's an optimal amount of movement that allows your joints to not hurt. This is a lie.
