*gathers all of the people in the world who write the number 7 with a little dash in the center of it so I can study them like little critters and find out what makes them do that*

There’s actually a lot of history regarding the development writing systems and why there are different visual representations of numerals,

but the short answer is: it’s regional, and you probably picked up how to make your numbers look based on your parents or your primary school teachers

ruusverd

I do it out of spite because in grade school a kids detective story identified the culprit by saying NO American wrote their sevens with a line and I thought that was super flimsy evidence and it made me so mad I started putting a line through my sevens so the fictional detective would be wrong and then kept doing it for several decades since.

I do feel one can’t underestimate the “elementary school child taught themselves how to do this Out Of Spite” crowd

goodfriendo

there’s the category of child who “didn’t learn this out of spite” too: i refused to learn how to read an analog clock because my first grade teacher was such an asshole about teaching it to us. to this day i still refuse to read an analog clock (i can do it i just really don’t care to and I’m still holding onto my wonderfully petty spite)

Blackwater Dive

2024, hand bleached and dyed denim, cotton batting and thread

inspired by blackwater photography of plankton! this was my first time layering bleach painting. All the silhouettes were painted with bleaching gel, loosely tie dyed, and then bleached again to make the highlights. I quilted the piece using my free motion foot to outline each individual animal and tacked down the rest of the quilt with small satin stitches that remind me of marine snow. I dyed bias tape to match. super happy with this one and excited to show it in a gallery setting soon!

People who are like “erm why would I take a 6 hour train when I can fly there in 45 minutes” are forgetting the mental toll of Being In An Airport which shortens your lifespan by 2 months each time

goodfriendo

going to the airport used to be easier before 9/11. you could essentially roll up to the gate with your ticket (after a walk through a detector and putting your bag thru a scanner). you could just give your plane ticket to a friend if you couldn’t use it anymore.

your family or loved ones could come with you to the gate to say goodbye!

also just wanted to note: no matter how good the airport is, the air is always stale as hell and that alone takes 2 months off my life. it sucks and i hate it. we need trains and good bus systems again in this country the us of a

airports smell so fuckin stale to me would totally take a train over a plane any day traveling by car also sucks
