She was broken from moment to moment

575534

watching her world collide

she felt lost inside herself.

11665100

She fell apart for a passion

that flamed beneath her.

She waited

and died a hundred times,

it dripped from her pores.

The moment she let go,

she soared

over the stillness

like the star she was born to be.

I'm a fan of poetry.  Good poems teach me lessons in writing.

A poet must be concise, descriptive, and emotional all in a few lines.

That's a pretty goddamn awesome skill to have.

So . . . I'm always reading poetry.

And Robert M. Drake has always had a luscious way with words.

Falling or flying towards you.

Losing or finding myself in you

and beauty was never the word to catch all that you are,

for now i know

the means

never the word

to catch all that you are

for now i know the means

of the infinite

and it all starts and ends with you.

I definitely enjoyed the poetry! I found the author just from walking around Wynwood in Miami and seeing his poetry written on the sidewalks. Later, I googled him and found his books.

This one is definitely a keeper!! I give it FIVE STARS!!

I don't even know how this book made it to get published. It is crap and has grammatical mistakes.

Nice book of poetry by R.M. Drake. My second one. I enjoyed the “deep feels” invoked via these short poems. A lot were relatable to the times I’ve experienced deep feelings of love in my life, and I got misty-eyed a couple times.
I became drawn to R.M. Drake via Facebook posts showing soft black and white photographs of short love poems typed on beautifully textured parchment via an old fashioned typewriter. Both of the books I’ve read do not have the artwork that drew me into those Facebook posts, and some of the magic was lost for me. I wish for there to be a best-of anthology released some day with that artwork!

First book I’ve read for the booktubeathon! I bought this book because it was super short and easy to read and by reading it I have completed two challenges
1) Read a book with green on the cover
2) Read a book wearing the same hat the entire time

my review: it’s full of pictures and short poems, it was good, if you want to read a very short book you can read in an hour get this, it’s very tumblry and artsy.

~4.5~

The only reason it isn't a 5 star is because of the design. While I love the page design themselves, the words are too big for the punctuation marks. Being that the words are in all caps, there were a few times I wouldn't see the marks and keep reading. So I had to re-read quite a few of the poems over while paying attention to the marks which distracts from the poem.
Still another fantastic book by Robert M Drake!!

As soon as I got it i started reading it and it was finished in around 15 minutes. I really loved it and it was as good as I expected. I've seen a few things from his instagram and I've always loved his words. So happy I finally have read one of his work. Though it was too short wish we had more poems per pages!

Deep philosophical quotes about life and love...very relatable. Love the photography/artwork on every page. One star taken off for grammatical errors. The author needs an editor. Beautiful nonetheless.

Hold up a minute, am I missing something here? Is this poetry of some sort that I couldn't recognize?
Though, truthfully, the structure is immensely similar to those pictures with cliche quotes in them..

um, I.. eh?

Sometimes I think that the words in books speak the loudest. Although this may be incredibly selfish, I feel like this book was written for me. I live for these written treasures.

This book is every basic Instagrammer's dream.

I picked up the book because it was free on Kindle Unlimited and I have seen quotes from "R.M. Drake" all over Instagram and thought to myself, "Who is this dude and why is everyone so deep all of a sudden?" Perhaps I wasn't in the right frame of mind or perhaps I'm just not profound but when I started I honestly laughed out loud. It's a collection of Instagram captions with similar pictures to match.

I did like some of the quotes and I do think that if I was feeling in a super deep mood and I read this it might have resonated a lot more. Some of the text is inspiring and some are laughable. I finished it in about an hour which was cool. Read it or don't, I doubt R.M. Drake would care.

Here are some choice examples:

"BUT DEAR, DON'T BE AFRAID OF LOVE IT'S ONLY MAGIC."

"TO LOVE IS TO SOAR IN THE WILD UNEXPECTEDLY"

"SHE NEEDE THE CHAOS WITHIN HER IN ORDER TO DISCOVER THE EXTRAORDINARY THAT NO MAN COULD EVER REACH"

"USE LOVE AS THE ONLY INSTRUMENT TO QUESTION THE WORLD AROUND YOU"

"OH DARLING, HOW THE STARS INSIDE ME BURN FOR YOU."

"WE ARE THE SOCIETY WE SO DESPERATELY BLAME FOR ALL OUR FAULTS BURIED BENEATH OUR SCARS."

"WE SWALLOWED THE CHAOS BECAUSE WE KNEW WE DIDN'T WANT TO BE ORDINARY."

"TO BE HUMAN IS TO BE BROKEN AND BROKEN IS ITS OWN KIND OF BEAUTIFUL"

"A TAMED WOMAN WILL NEVER LEAVE HER MARK IN THE WORLD."

I have mixed feelings about these poems? thoughts? aphorisms? Part of it stems from the style that these are written in. I am unable to describe it succinctly, but it's definitely of a specific era of Tumblr posts that peaked in popularity and now just feel over-used. Beyond that some of the language feels like that of a non-native English speaker who has gotten certain nuance of meanings mixed up or someone using a Thesaurus to be more "unique" without understanding how the replacement words differ from the original, if that makes any sense. There are phrases that are just off, and there was at least one that didn't make any sense at all. All that being said, there were a few pages that rang true, but not enough or significantly enough to merit a second read, recommendation of, or purchase of this collection.

It was beautifully written however it wasn't as good as some of his other work ( Black butterfly & Beautiful chaos).

I give this 3.5 stars out of 5.

Like the book previous Spaceship this was not the book of poetry I was expecting. This book is instead told in little musings and thoughts and is a little bit weird if I'm going to be honest. There were indeed some good bits to be had with in but overall I was a little unimpressed.

3.5 stars - There were just a couple poems in this book that were worth saving, but not nearly enough as I'd like. I'm not sure anything can compare to his "Black Butterfly" which is my all time favourite.
