Master Slave Husband Wife: An Epic Journey from Slavery to Freedom

I have some thoughts here. Some of the negative reviews have complained that the actual journey to freedom only occupy the first third of this book. This is true, but this complaint completely misses the point. The rest of the book focuses on how they maintain their freedom and how they choose to use their freedom and how their story was circulated , celebrated and at times denigrated and disappeared, which all aligns with post Civil War reconstruction, and how that disaster continues to affect America today. This is a very important book because of the last 2/3 of it.
