Mary Norton
“Can you read?" the boy said at last.
"Of course," said Arrietty. "Can't you?"
"No," he stammered. "I mean--yes. I mean I've just come from India."
"What's that got to do with it?" asked Arrietty.
"Well, if you're born in India, you're bilingual. And if you're bilingual, you can't read. Not so well."
Arrietty stared up at him: what a monster, she thought, dark against the sky.
"Do you grow out of it?" she asked.
He moved a little and she felt the cold flick of his shadow.
"Oh yes," head said, "it wears off. My sisters were bilingual; now they aren't a bit. They could read any of those books upstairs in the schoolroom."
"So could I," said Arrietty quickly, "if someone could hold them, and turn the pages. I'm not a bit bilingual. I can read anything.”

Adam Scott Huerta
“I understand more that pain is evidence to our awakening to truth and also a measure of closeness to truth.”
Adam Scott Huerta, Motive Black

Ammar Habib
“You must come to terms with the reality that nothing outside ourselves, be it people or things is actually responsible for our happiness.”
Ammar Habib, Mary Edwards Walker: America's Only Female Medal of Honor Recipient

Michael G. Kramer
“Fritz Kramer said, “I cannot see why my treatment of my Chinese workers as equals should cause any German, American or British person any concern.”
Michael G. Kramer, His Forefathers and Mick

Susan Rowland
“Mary stared at the dreamlike happenings on the page. Human figures faced each other; the man’s head was a golden ball with rays reaching up to huge stars and out to the distant mountains; the woman’s silver head was sickle-shaped and surrounded by birds like eagles with white beaks. Some of the black letters glowed because they had tips like tiny flames.”
Susan Rowland, The Alchemy Fire Murder
