Legitimately the funniest thing just happened in our virtual book group after someone rec’d a vampire romance to me and someone else piped up that it had a “problematic age gap.”
In a vampire romance novel.
Like, yah. I sure fucking hope so.

so many staples of vampire fiction are deeply troubling in that they might be genuine horror in real life, but if you wrote vampire fiction without them it'd be like being served an empty cone sans ice cream.
people often ask me for vampire lit recommendations but i know based on what they've said that they'd absolutely hate 99% of the foundational themes of vampire lit so it's always just
If I let a vampire drink my blood and they turn out to be 40 something with the same life experiences as me to “avoid power imbalances,” I’d be so pissed.
I’d be like what do you mean I took my expensive heme iron supplements for this. No, give it back. I’m anemic I can’t be giving it out for this.
100% you need to ID vampires before you give them blood and if they have a real legal ID they're too young to be bothering us.
If it’s not scrawled on faded parchment, I don’t want it.
Its so crazy to me that staged duo have such a long standing relationship built on loyalty and trust, and the whole time there's a glaring transactional aspect to their relationship.
No matter how much c!Dream trusts Punz with his plans, he's still paying him to help. No matter how loyal c!Punz is, he still accepts Dream's money everytime.
It creates a wall between them, preventing them from from ever genuinely getting close. After all are you ever truly friends if you pay him to spend time with you? Can you really say that things have changed and you care about him if you're still taking his money?
But it also helps to protect their relationship. There's a lot of fear on both sides, that if they do ever get closer to each other, if they get rid of that barrier, then nothing is going to stop the other from abandoning them. They live with this boss employee relationship because the risk of anything else is to great.
Also plausible deniability when one of them goes to prison 👍
do people who only know doctor who via fandom osmosis know that dr. who is dating the time machine
i forgot to mention the time machines in the show aren't actually machines but sentient and often organic nightmare dimensions. hope this clears some things up.
