you were never really sure what made you fall in love with chris.

maybe it was his smile.

his laugh.

his eyes.

his humor.

his kindness.

there were so many things.

but one thing that always stood out to you was his sweetness.

his pure kindness and love for the world around him. the kind of kindness he saved especially for you.

because you could be having the worst day of your life. and chris would be there.

he would make you hot chocolate, and kiss you, and tell you you were beautiful, and you could cry if you wanted.

he would put on your favorite movie, throw a blanket over you, and let you curl up with him.

chris cut through the worst days like a sweetener, brightening up the most bitter coffees.

he never undermined your problems.

he never made you feel bad about yourself.

he just listened.

he got everything you said. he understood.

whatever he did always made you feel better; it could have been the simplest things.

he made sure you were never cold.

he always made sure you were comfortable.

he would tell stupid jokes just to make you laugh.

and sometimes, all you needed was for him to be there.

and he always was.

whenever someone asked you, “how’s life?”

the answer was always, “great.”

it didn’t matter if your car had gotten a flat on the way there.

or if you had gotten fired.

because you had chris, so you knew no matter what, everything would be alright.

he would let you scream.

cry.

give him the silent treatment.

and when it was all over, he would hold you.

comfort you.

and let you do it all over again if you needed to.

because you loved chris.

and he loved you more.
