After being so focused on the natural phenomena, we'd completely forgotten about the Tavish gala. Luckily, we have some elegant clothes, I thought to myself.
I went upstairs to our bedroom closet. Fortunately, it was spacious and practical, as well as a comfortable place to concentrate.
While rummaging through my clothes, I finally found a violet dress with a ruffled hem and a small slit on the left leg.
"I hope I can find some heels to match." I said to myself, thinking that heels are like my sneakers.
I spotted a box containing heels in the same color family as the dress. "Bingo."

Time passes in the blink of an eye when one fixes. For the first time in my life, I see myself as a woman of society. Not as a meteorology, but more scientific.
I hear the door open and with my senses, I feel like my dear husband watches me.
"You're looking nice, darling." I turn around and look at it. He wore the classic gala suit, but this time he had a black vest that contrasted with his suit, plus his perfectly shiny shoes.
His face looked handsome and serious at the same time. “Splendid”. I sigh heavily. Roger grabs my chin and draws me to him, placing a kiss on my lips.
"This time, we'll take Ted."
“Okay”. I answer as my hand runs through my husband's hair. “Is he going to wear his mini suit?”
“He is our son of society”. Roger says.
“Then you are my wife of society.”
And you are my husband of society. Roger lets out a laugh and catches my gaze. "Let's be a society couple for tonight then."

"Well well well, look who we have here," Mr. Tavish remarked as we arrived, and the room was already full.
He was wearing a simple but elegant formal suit. Looking closer, I could hear the sounds of cameras and lights. The press was already here.
"Today, for the first time, we decided to hold an exclusive party to commemorate Raven Brooks's groundbreaking research." He looked at us both, anticipating what he was about to say.
Out of nowhere, Mrs. Tavish joined her husband, wearing a dress straight out of the medieval era. They both smiled at us with satisfaction.
"We will share the findings you have made with everyone. However, you have done more than the research team," Mrs. Tavish said confidently, raising a hand to reveal a jeweled one.
Then more people began to arrive, and the Tavishes left us to greet them.

The party has become more of a gala than a party, as most of the guests are important people with considerable wealth and power. So many suits and dresses, both stylish and minimalist.
I turn around and see that it's not the press, but the Raven Brooks Banner. Then, behind the reporters, a middle-aged man emerges, tall and powerfully built, wearing a black tuxedo and black gloves.
"Now, we're here for the first time in the town of Raven Brooks. The Tavish are holding a celebration in honor of the great strides our town is making, thanks to the university's research team," the man says seriously.
The sound of the cameras grows louder. Then the man passes the microphone to a reporter they've just met: Norman Darby.
Unlike the guests, he's wearing only trousers and a white t-shirt, his tie the only thing in place.
"Thanks to the research team's efforts, we've learned more about the mysterious phenomena that occur for no apparent reason."
"Not only that, thanks to the meteorological duo, Roger and Adelle Peterson, Raven Brooks is close to putting itself on the map."
Out of nowhere, we're in the spotlight.
"What do you have to say about this?"
"This is a huge step for the people of Raven Brooks!"
"The Tavish family is very demanding when it comes to requiring top-quality staff. What was your strategy for convincing them?"
The reporters are very persistent; they seem like gossip channels. I cross my arms around my chest, looking resolute.
"All this momentum wouldn't have been possible without Raven Brooks University and its director showing interest in science," I reply sincerely.
Then I feel Roger take my waist with one hand as he answers another reporter.
“You’ve worked alongside Roger Peterson, one of the brightest minds of his generation at the University of Massachusetts. How did you two connect?”
So insistent. “Our paths simply crossed during our careers.” I smile with annoyance.
Then I continue. “Well, I’d say weather has been one of the most fascinating areas. I don’t regret choosing it, even though people like me judge it; my husband and I are a meteorological duo that burns like mercury.”
Roger didn’t notice, but I could imagine him smiling with satisfaction. Brilliant.

I decided to go outside for some fresh air with Ted, as I didn't want to involve him in the photos and the interviews, since he deserves a normal childhood.
"Lots of lights for Teddy," I playfully told my little boy.
He just nodded as he fell asleep. After being outside a while longer, I reflected on and compared what had happened to us. We had discovered things and phenomena never seen before, and now the town knew about us.
I sighed and contemplated the evening from the elegant terrace of the Tavish castle. It reminded me so much of Cinderella and its aesthetic.
Then, I heard a voice calling me. "Mrs. Peterson?"
I turned around and saw that it was Norman Darby, the reporter from the Banner. I wanted to say something to him, but something prevented me, so I looked at him.
"I, uh... It's an honor to meet you," he says awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck.
"The pleasure is all mine." I replied, turning back to the scenery. To my surprise, Norman joins me.
"Your son looks just like you two," Norman whispers with a sincerity. I have a feeling he'll be just as talented as you.”
I sigh with relief. "You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs, right?"
"Right, ahem..." Norman clears his throat.
"If you give me the chance, I'd love to report your findings and publish about you. I'm not like some generic gossip columnist." Norman says with an impressive confidence.
I should be wary of him, but something inside me tells me otherwise. "We're just doing our job, but if you insist, we'll call you when we need you, okay?"
With his and Rita's help, we can get more quality information; It's better to have a pair of extra hands than nothing. "Welcome, Norman," I smile proudly.
"Nice suit your son's wearing," Norman smiles.

Finally, the moment of the Tavish announcement arrives. I feel nervous, yet confident at the same time. Then Roger gently takes my hand and rubs it. "I'll be by your side, no matter what."
"The reporter from the Banner has joined our ship," I reply, wrapping my hands around his.
"You're the better of the two of us, darling," Roger says proudly. I look at him with complete confidence.
"It's the weather," I say, adopting a comedian's manner.
Then, the Tavishes stand in the middle of a spacious stage. "Good evening, everyone. It's an honor to be here," Mrs. Tavish says into a microphone.
"And not only us, but before us is the creator of the golden apple, Gammy Flo!"
The crowd applauds, and the woman appears on stage. She is elderly, but wears a luxurious gold dress with matching gloves. She simply waves with her right hand.
The Raven Brooks Banner is already focusing its cameras.
Mrs. Tavish sighs proudly. "Our town may be small, but we're on the verge of reaching the top!"
"Officially, we will be opening more branches and small parks on our golden block, in addition to recreational spaces."
More applauses. Then, Gammy sits at a table next to the Tavishs' table.
Then Mr. Tavish takes the microphone. "The other announcement we'll be making is that we will begin funding the research team at Raven Brooks University," he says casually.
There are a few claps, but then they erupt. "During this week, they have consistently supported us in thoroughly investigating the peculiar phenomena of our town."
"Therefore, we have decided to open more positions on the project."
Applause is heard. "However, we have two very efficient collaborators, the meteorological duo, Roger and Adelle Peterson!"
Suddenly, spotlights illuminate us, indicating that we should go with them. With a look, Roger tells me, "You have to go; I'll stay with Ted."
I didn't want to, but I put Ted in Roger's arms and I move through the sea of tables.
Once at the front, I take the microphone and think about what I'm going to say. Many people might be unhappy that I'm the one who's speaking, but that's other story.
"Raven Brooks is a town where the improbable becomes probable. We've been gathering information and collaborating with the Raven Brooks department." I say loudly and firmly.
"Therefore, from today onward, all information will be transparent."
The audience applauds, and I swear I saw Norman Darby silently approve.
"However, Raven Brooks' future could be a turning point for the University thanks to the minds of its young people; the town will be proud."
Everyone, without exception, applauds, but my gaze is drawn to Roger and Ted. He applauds and gives me an approving look, but what surprises me most is seeing my son smiling and babbling with joy.

"You were exceptional, sweetheart." Roger says as he lies down on the bed.
"Hmm, it was nothing, but I admit I was thinking about how productive we've been these past few weeks." I tell my husband.
"That boy is a sweetheart." Roger says, looking at the crib next to our bed.
"When he saw you, he got excited and started clapping his little hands."
I slowly approach my son and get down to the crib. "You'll be someone successful, Teddy," I say, giving him a little kiss on the forehead.
Then I settle in and sigh, finally in my bed. For tonight, I snuggle up to my husband's chest and feel him wrap an arm around my back.
"Rest, society husband." He lets out a deep, but quiet, laugh.
"Rest, society wife." And just like that, the world goes black.
