every time i ask people if they do any new years resolutions its all ooooo i dont like making them bc i fail or ohhhhh no i couldnt keep up wiht that and then when they ask me and i tell them about Pasta Quest (i am eating as many different pasta shapes as possible in the space of a year) or when i did Fruit Adventures (every time i saw a fruit i had never eaten before id get one and eat it and read the wikipedia article about it) theyre like hang on i forgot you can make Fun Ones i want a fun one
while i actually made this post back in May, since New Year’s is approaching here’s some of my fave suggestions from the tags if you’re looking for inspiration!
other favorites from the notes I didn’t get screenshots of at the time:
learn the names/species of local plants, bugs, and birds where you live (iNaturalist or Merlin the bird app help with this)
learn the rules to 10 new card games
steal the colored paint cards from hardware store paint aisles and use them to make art
try out every different apple variety you can find and rank them
similarly LOTS of people in the notes doing soup quests, and a few cheese quests also
similarly lots of people reading/watching certain amounts of media over the year, and tracking/rating it
track the number of cats/dogs/etc you see over the year
heated rivalry has really intensified the shitty takes from f/f fans who don’t know how to actually look for, create, or support the media they want lol. there’s literally so much live action GL available online already (please watchthese pilots so the shows i want to see most can actually get picked up).
or if you are weirdly insistent on having a western show, you could just, i don’t know, go to a bookstore and buy a f/f romance book instead of pretending like heated rivalry just dropped out of the sky fully formed instead of being optioned for a series because the books were already bestsellers.
there is genuinely so much f/f literature out there that you could be reading instead of complaining about m/m books getting adaptations. you will not get a yuri heated rivalry by complaining about heated rivalry. you will only get a yuri heated rivalry by supporting f/f writers like Tasha Suri, Malka Older, Caitlin Starling, C.L. Polk, Micaiah Johnson, Aliette de Bodard, Emily Skrutskie—and these are just the ones off the top of my head. and these are just speculative fiction writers because there is enough out there that i can afford to be picky about the genre i read! just read a book. literally just go to a library, go to a bookstore, and open up a book. read a fucking book. just read a fucking book. you won’t get a book adaptation if you don’t read the fucking book. just open it. and read it.
but also you can literally watch live action yuri for free on youtube right now!! there are millions of people already doing it which is why it’s so weird when white tumblrinas act like asian GL doesn’t exist. like you are making yourself look an absolute ignorant fool when you ignore its existence. thailand will absolutely have a sports GL out before north america does and you will all still be sitting here arguing about whether lesbians experience homophobia or not.
I’ve seen some fans say that the number of gay hockey players in the Game Changer/Heated Rivalry/etc universe is “unrealistic.” Let’s do some math.
There are ~730 NHL players. That’s just NHL by the way—there are other lower leagues. Surveys vary, but estimates as to what percentage of men identify as gay or bisexual range from 3%—5%. That means that conservatively there are at least 22 gay or bisexual NHL players in real life, or as many as 36 if we’re choosing the upper number.
Would it be unrealistic for every single one of those people to know each other? Yes. Do they, in this fictional universe? No. The characters are spread out over different teams and locations.
The romance elements are undeniably corny in the series, yes (I love it). There are happy endings in ways that might not accurately reflect reality. But the number of gay hockey players is not unrealistic.
There are straight hockey player romance stories. This series just happens to focus on the gay ones. Is that so wrong?
6. What do you think will happen to you after you die?
I think that my achievement-oriented soul will go to Heaven, where God will scream and throw bricks at me forever. I will collect the bricks and organize them into two piles. One pile will be “Bricks That Hit Me” and the other will be “Bricks That Missed Me.” I will spend eternity building these two organized piles of bricks that were thrown at me by God.
I think that my loosey-goosey soul will go to Hell, where the Devil will torment me forever, but it won’t bother me because I roll with the punches. I believe maybe my mother will sometimes think of me and say, “My child is in Heaven,” and my terrible ghost will appear to her in the dark and say, “No, I am in Hell with the Devil, but I don’t care.” /end]
