[Description: a TikTok video showing someone holding up a Macbook laptop with an incredulous look, with a caption reading "Alan Turing after I bring him to 2026". The person inspects the laptop, and as they do so they say "Oh my god. This is—this is incredible. Like, I just—I can't even comprehend what I'm looking at here. Like, I just never thought that like in a million years society would ever, ever be able to create something like this." They pause and look at the laptop screen, and say "And you said they're both hockey players?" /End description]

in my head the star wars equivalent of tswift is some human woman named tay’lor spiff or something and her stans are losing their minds over theories that she’s secretly a jedi singing about the horrors of war, even though she’s from a neutral system that hasn’t seen so much as a moral panic in 50 years

the theories get even more egregious during the imperial era, with people straight up thinking she joined the rebellion in secret and is loading her songs with subliminal rebel propaganda. their main piece of evidence for this is if you play a certain song backwards, it sounds like she’s saying “freedom” in shyriiwook. the fans get really defensive if you point out she’s performed at the yearly empire day celebration thrice now and her family historically owned ewok slaves

i regret to inform both you beautiful people that this isn’t going to go how you think it will

spiff fans (also known as “spiffies”) insist that the two decommissioned venator-class destroyers spiff purchased, the bad blood and the reputation, are for diplomatic purposes that benefit the rebellion. jedi’lors have concocted theories that she served on both ships during the clone wars and was respectful of every clone that served there, despite her courtship of a gravball player that thrice advocated against the clone veterans being granted natural citizenship

all goofing aside I don't understand the urge to reimagine Tay'lor Allisoarn Spiff as a secret Jedi fighting for the rebellion when the rebel alliance is literally like overflowing with women fighting the empire. Gara and Ke'Cha and Mileu and Halcey are right there. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't like Taylor but why would you hang all your hopes of taking down the empire on her

🤖 thedroidteer-andthegarbagecompactor Follow

Isn't Lady Gara a force sensitive?

🪐chirodactylmanisagatewaydrug Follow

Hence why I put her in the list of famous force using women who are in the rebel alliance?

(okay ignore the fact I've put an image in here but this is ops icon)

#im sure op has this post muted by now but Ur icon is so real op

The icon is because of this post

👤Eelinrmalice-deactivated201X023

btw to just clarify for anyone who sees this reblog of this post

op is basically saying something along the lines of "yea ik tay'lor spiff is a jedi but like. why is she y'all's only force using rebel icon when there are all these other force users in the rebellion???"

i might have worded this badly but hopefully i got the main point across

🪐chirodactylmanisagatewaydrug Follow

Hi OP here I most CERTAINLY DID NOT SAY TAY'LOR SPIFF IS A JEDI???

(based on this post)

you wouldn't believe who showed up in today's Jango Fett comic issue

(Jango Fett #4 by Ethan Sacks and Luke Ross)

head in my hands. she looks so much like the design i made too

how are u falling for hypothetical propaganda

happy 100k to this post. this awful awful post

Your kid probably already knows about sex. Despite your most careful efforts, they probably have figured it out at least a little bit.

My aunt was pregnant with my cousin when I was 4. My other cousin gave us a kitten because his female cat 'got out of the barn' when i was 5, and i had to learn what 'spaying' was. It was rumored (correctly) that I was a lesbian when I was 7. When I was 9, a couple of boys on my bus were gawking at a playboy one of them stole from their dad.

When I was 11, I was friends with a girl who was a victim of sexual abuse from a family member. My parents gave me 'the talk', which was largely about consent and why bodies are weird. I watched "Revenge of the Nerds." When I was 12, I was friends with someone who wrote rape fantasies. I learned what hentai was. I learned what a furry was (though i have a more nuanced understanding of it now). When I was 13, I was told by a classmate that I seemed like the kind of person to (extremely graphic description of a bdsm kink that I didnt know existed.) My church gave me 'the talk,' which was largely about STIs and why you shouldnt have sex til youre married. My school also gave me 'the talk,' which was largely about the names of body parts and what pregnancy is like. I saw a South Park episode. I saw some John Hughes movies. I watched a friend deep-throat a banana as a joke. Crime procedurals were on TV. When I was 15, most of my friends were on fanfiction.net and livejournal (I am old) or roleplaying through online forums. I learned what yaoi was. One of my friends had a restraining order on her ex for stalking.

At 16, I was largely inexperienced with sex- had never been on a date due to a complicated relationship with the closet. But it seemed everyone else had quite a bit of experience, whether good or bad or neutral. So I learned some things this way.

When we talk about banning books for being 'sexually explicit,' my mind goes to "Speak," by Laurie Halse Anderson- which is about a teenage rape survivor. One of the reasons for its banning is that it includes the rape scene, but the narration fades to black before it becomes graphic.

I read that when I was 13, and it made me think of Sasha- my friend who was a SA victim at the age of 11 and who knew how long it had gone on, who dropped off my radar after 5th grade. And I would think about that book again and again every time I would make a friend with that kind of story (surprisingly often.)

So... all of this. All of this gets revisited when we talk about purity culture, when we talk about 'sexually explicit books with minors,' when we talk about 'protecting their innocence.'

I, a nerd that never went to parties, was not the target audience for this book- even if it helped me relate.

The target audience was Sasha. Or Kelsey. Or Nicole.

And here I am, arguing with some asshole on the internet who probably calls himself a 'protector of children' by supporting drag bans and book bans and defunding planned parenthood, because he thinks that a young adult book about navigating toxic relationships that has the words 'hand on my thigh' in it should be banned because thats 'sexually explicit' and I'm tired.

Your kid probably knows about sex. Through friends at school, through family members, through observation. I think its okay to let them read books where the lesson is that they're allowed to say 'no' to it.

This, by the way, applies to a host of 'inappropriate topics' that books get banned over.

The book about drug addiction might not be for you, but it is for the kid whose dad is in and out of rehab.

The book about child trafficking might not be for you, but it might be for the kid whose cousin disappeared one day.

The book about the school shooting will likely not make your kid a school shooter, but it will provide understand for the kids who have been through one.

The book about racism isnt supposed to make you feel bad for being white- its supposed to help the kid that feels bad for being black.

The book about a gay kid wont turn your kid gay, but it might help the kid who needs to come out.

The book about the transgender kid probably wont make your kid trans, but it will give a voice to the kid that already is.

Your kid probably knows these things if they've interacted with the world outside their nuclear family at all. If youre looking at a reading list and thinking that the books should be banned, it might be prudent to instead ask yourself 'who is this book written for?'

Analyzing the politics of a work that's meant to be apolitical is actually a really interesting exercise because it asks you to critically examine what the creator considers to be "political" in the first place. Which ideas are just How Things Are, and which ones are Political, and how is that influenced by the creator's beliefs?

Usually this just ends up with you looking like a moron btw

Angrily lashing out at the suggestion that it's possible to do basic media analysis was foundational to the ragebait ecosystem of the 2010s, from which we got basically the entire culture of modern far right politics, btw.

I genuinely believe myself and others are being so sincere and literal when we say TOUCH GRASS

I went outside and got an education, that's where I learned that you can obtain knowledge and insight through analytical methods, then noticed that some people who sit on the internet yelling at strangers get really mad about that constantly.

"accessibility" needs to stop meaning "low-engagement"

"we are making our TTRPG more accessible!"

"oh, did you make the font bigger and more legible?"

"no we're just doing the next edition in D&D5e"

"we're making our video game more accessible!"

"oh did you add an option to remap the controls?"

"no we just added an option to remove combat so the game is just a bunch of cutscenes"

Doom letting me pick out the exact colour of the cross hair and a bunch of styles to pick out from so I can get one I can see best against the different colour schemes of the levels was fabulous. I am always resentful of games sticking with extremely fixed user interfaces.

Being able to change the color of HUD elements is huge for me too, pure "high visibility" #ffffff white HUD elements drive me crazy and feel like the burn into my fucking eyes and games that I already enjoy and play a bunch of keep adding them in updates with no way to revert them for "better visibility."

for the love of everything that is holy if you are bringing something that has spent years in your DISGUSTING BUG INFESTED HOUSE to a store to be disassembled or otherwise worked on. either invest in some fucking roach spray or WARN THE POOR MINIMUM WAGE EMPLOYEE THAT YOUR SHIT IS INFESTED WITH BUGS

Here are the 2024 vaccine recommendation schedules. They’ve already been wiped from the cdc site. Save them and share widely, especially to your friends with kids.

Hi!!! One of my parents got meningitis when I was a kid.

They were in the hospital for nearly a month, the rest of us were all placed in medical quarantine, there were several points we thought they were gonna die, and even though they survived, it was a SUPER close call and they lost about two years of memories from the ensuing brain damage.

Like… a two-uear-long cookie-cutter pocket of thoughts and memories went missing right out of their brain. It’s an inflammation of the brain that cooks it alive.

I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A VACCINE.

I WILL BE GETTING IT.

People say about Gen AI ''well its going to be basically in every game in the next few years so get used to it" like, no... do you have any idea how stubborn I am? I will never play another new game in MY LIFE if that is the case. There are plenty of old ones I missed. "Oh what about books and TV?" SAME. I do not care. I will stop consuming new media forever if GenAI is going to be in everything.

Yes, This is absolutely the hill I will die on (AND WE WILL ALL DIE ON IF COMPANIES DONT STOP PUSHING AI AND BUILDING FUCKING DATA CENTERS EVERYHERE FUCK)

youtubers should do reverse sponsorships. just interrupt the narrative of the video to shit-talk some random company for 1-2 minutes.

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Already-existing laws that have been around for decades state the photo or video of a food product must contain the actual food itself. Everything else AROUND the food can be fake, but you must use the real food in the ad. You can alter the food in certain ways to enhance its appearance, but if you’re selling a hamburger, the burger itself must be the actual burger your restaurant sells.

You can use glue instead of milk if you’re selling cereal, but you can’t use glue instead of milk if you’re selling milk. You can’t falsely represent how chunky a soup is by adding extra chunks, but you can put it in a shallow bowl to show off the chunks it normally has. You can spray a burger with glycerin to make it shinier. There’s a lot you can do…as long as the actual food product is in the image.

This means ads of food for sale cannot legally be completely AI generated. I don’t know if this rule applies to other kinds of products, but it’s absolutely a rule for food.

So if you do see ads for food and the product itself in the ad is AI generated, I think you have legal recourse to report it to the FTC and the BBB as false advertisement.

@kitsune528

Actually my knowledge of this SPECIFICALLY comes from food photography.

If you were taught ALL the food in the advert can be fake, you were taught wrong. I think what actually happened is you weren’t taught the whole truth.

If you re-read my original post you’ll see I note that ONLY the actual product needs to be real. So sure, you can use lard instead of ice cream…as long as the ad you’re making is not selling ice cream! Is the ad for ice cream cones, sprinkles, or chocolate sauce? Great! Use as much lard as you want.

However…is the ad selling vanilla ice cream? Put the lard down, buddy. You gotta photograph the actual ice cream. Scooped out of the actual container it’s sold in, by the way. Now, can you use a refrigerated table and blast it with liquid nitrogen to stop it from melting? Sure! But you gotta use the actual product.

Let me use a cereal example. You have to have a real box of the cereal. You CAN’T change the proportion of marshmallows to cereal. You CAN fish through the bag and find the most perfect pieces possible. You CAN use glue instead of milk. You CAN use a shallow bowl. And you can Photoshop the hell out of the image after. But you HAVE to use the actual cereal.

For a hamburger ad, the burger has to be the real burger as manufactured by the company. You can spray it in glycerine to make it shiny. You can use a fake bun, fake lettuce, fake cheese etc. But if you’re selling hamburger, you HAVE to use the real burger in the ad. If you’re selling burger buns, on the other hand, everything can be fake EXCEPT the buns. You can open as many packages of buns as you want to find the perfect bun, if you want. But the bun has to be the actual buns you’re advertising.

Since Thursday our politicians have been trying to rush the 'Kids Online Safety Act' (KOSA) and SCREEN acts alongside 15 other bills through committee in order to censor the internet while lying about it being for child safety. It was such laws that allowed the UK, Australia, and Europe to become the hellholes they are where youre arrested for mean posts.

Sadly, our same leaders are also trying to repeal Section 230 alongside these bills. What Section 230 does, in simple terms, is categorize stuff you make online as part of your freedom of speech.

If they aren't stopped they will strip that from you. Be wary.

Sorry for the non lancer post but if KOSA or the Screen ACT passes, if section 230 is repealed, it will be apocalyptic for tumblr and any site like it.

this site provides good resources to help you fight this if you're an american

all public transport should be free unconditionally and I'm TIREDDD of pretending this is a radical idea

thank you so much for asking ☺️ so my first step would be not making people pay for it.

Video game concept (I have no idea if/how it would even work):

The background music varies according to which characters you have in your party. An area of the game that'd otherwise have Yucky And Spooky atmosphere and a background ambience inspiring dread is instead calm and soothing, if somewhat melancholy, if you have the character with you who has mentioned liking places like that, it feels like home. Combat music changes from "survival horror" to "yay we're kicking ass" if you've got the big brawler with you. There's a subtle but clear increase in birdsong in the background ambience if you've got the wilderness I Am One With Nature -character in your party.

The way your companions see the environment you're in has an influence on how it appears to you.
