Sanders Sides relies on aspects of psychology in order to create a thought provoking and educational analysis on Character! Thomas’ psyche.
The way that Sanders Sides is laid out can also be referred to as private self-consciousness (Jhangiani et al., 2022). Basically, this refers to the need for an introspective look around one’s inner thoughts and feelings (Jhangiani et al., 2022). In the case for Sanders sides, this is shown through the conversations and lessons Thomas learns from the aspects of his personality. Throughout the series, these conversations often revolve around Thomas’ public self-consciousness, or the focus of how we present ourselves and how the public reacts to this due to societal standards (Jhangiani et al., 2022). Often Thomas has some kind of dilemma that requires him to engage in this private self-consciousness in order to work through the issue and create a solution.
