pros: it would most likely vastly improve my life in a multitude of ways
cons: might get scared
keep coming back to: the ONLY WAY to make hockey-sense of the scene in ep 1 where the crowd clamors for the face-off bw ilya and shane and the announcers are like: are they gonna give the people what they want??????
is if!!!
boston originally plays ilya as a winger that doesn’t take that many face-offs!!
and that is super tasty for me in a complex lil ilyas-need-to-prove-himself to his new team sort of way, when he obvs does play center before he is drafted and therefore EXPECTS to play center. and also maybe feeds into a compelling dynamic where shane IS 1C for a long time before ilya gets it and how that does or maybe more interestingly doesn’t actually get under ilya’s skin. AND maybe does or doesn’t feel like a victory for shane, when he’s face-to-face with other guys across the dot wishing it was ilya he was beating.
and then we get the later scene w svetlana and ‘you would have him center me??’ becomes altogether juicyyyyy and layered in an entirely new way. not just as a euphemism for fucking, altho that’s always good, too. 😌
hi coco @dreamofme9 ! meant to reply to this.
so, a point of clarification: i was actually not talking about being captain, haha. i was talking about playing center forward position.
(fwiw they are both captains (have the Cs) by the time ilya wins the cup ! specifically they both get it somewhere bw summer 2012 and spring 2013.)
1C refers to being the center position on the top (or best) line of forward players on a team. each line of forwards (typically four on a team at any time, best to worst) has a right wing (RW) and a left wing (LW) and a center © and they are paired together because of similar skill level, chemistry, playmaking, etc. defensemen also have lines, but that’s actually just pairings of two defensemen.
a 1C is arguably considered The Best Player/Role on The Team. the one that scores the most, the playmaker, often as the captain or if not the captain, then often still the face of the team. in the show, it is implied that both shane and ilya play top line center from the moment they enter MLH/are drafted to their teams. this doesn’t actually make sense if we want to keep that single scene in where they get excited over them having a face-off. so i just played around with, How Do We Make It Make Sense?
you could also have it be shane who is not given the 1C position from the onset, but given that the show implies he only plays center, it would mean he couldn’t play a winger position, and would instead have to just be 2C.
but this COULD be a salient and compelling avenue to explore specifically in terms of montreal’s racism towards shane and expectations/standards of him as a player.
if ilya gets drafted first, but shane was maybe!!! slated to be drafted first!!! then this explains even more his expression during the pictures of 1,2,3 draft picks. and then ilya gets 1C at boston but shane gets played as 2C or lower and montreal says: work harder, be better, show us more, earn your spot, are you just the best asian kid or are you actually a good hockey player that wants it bad enough??? BUT ilya gets none of that, even after shane is in the lead in scoring or something – there’s a lot of interplay about merit and prejudice and perception of skill and hegemonic power plays and model minority standards and hockey’s inherent, virulent biases playing out in a way that would really fuck an 18yo up. (even more than he already is)

No single solution is the perfect and only one, and art-installation wind generators are a good way to add off-grid power in built-up areas where big turbines are a no-go (or where neighborhood rules prohibit them).
Any viable solarpunk future requires a variety of energy sources that do not pollute, and cities pose added challenges. This is a start!
Other great solutions for inhabited areas include solar roofs over not just homes but also bus stops and parking areas: Anywhere heat builds up, solar energy is not just being wasted but is adding to cooling requirements.
And we definitely need to see more green things growing in cities - plants absorb heat and carbon dioxide, convert sunlight into growth energy, and provide shade for other living creatures (including us).
Solutions like this wind-energy sculpture are great pieces that help build the overall architecture of living more sustainably!
I know this is going to make me sound pretensions but I have to get it off my chest. I feel an unimaginable rage when someone posts a photo and is like “this picture looks like a renaissance painting lol” when the photo clearly has the lighting, colors and composition of a baroque or romantic painting. There are differences in these styles and those differences are important and labeling every “classical” looking painting as renaissance is annoying and upsetting to me. And anytime I come across one of those posts I have to put down my phone and go take a walk because they make me so mad
In case you’re curious here’s what I mean.
Renaissance(distinct lines, stability and the individual man):
Baroque (bold, chaotic, dramatic):
Romantic(romanticize the simple hard working life):
Do you see the difference?
the last one’s probably closer to a Realist painting than a Romantic one (Realism was a pivot to showcasing everyday life for people outside of the upper class that were the primary subject of the romantic period)
This is what I’d consider Romantic (heroic lone individual, sublime quality of nature, dramatic and expressive):
