Seeing that fuckass epilogue of Will in a gay bar and remembering how when Noah was asked where he saw Will in the future, he said that he'd be focusing on his painting (his passion, as he said) and have someone to share coffee with. THAT should have been his epilogue, it's insane that the Duffers seem to have no understanding of their characters compared to the actors.
okay, so don't come at me for this because i don't mean it in an anti-el way (i love her dearly, i am so pissed about her ending. childhood wonder my ass, she was a person you idiots), it's just something that popped into my mind and i would like to know what other people think about it.
i have seen a lot of people (and i am not even counting milkvans in, i am talking about neutral people/bylers) saying that el and mike have a super strong an deep platonic love for each other and a bond that i have sometimes even seen compared with the one he has with lucas and dustin, also in terms of emotionally intimacy and general closeness (i don't mean in fanfictions, i mean while analysing or talking about the show in general, so canon compliant).
and for months, years even, i have never stopped and properly thought about that and i just took it as a fact but then the other day i was thinking about it and tbh to me that doesn't really seem to fit with what we have seen in the show.
i have no doubts that el and mike love and care for each other a lot, but i think that their bond is often exaggerated, even when talking about them platonically.
their bond is built on trauma and guilt. and i am not saying that it's impossible to form a healthy relationship or friendship from there, because it is. but that is not what we see in the show. we are never shown, and it's not even implied really, that from that trauma+guilt foundation they have been able to reach a healthy dynamic in their bond. if anything, we see the contrary.
so yeah, i just wanted to put this out there because it's been bugging me recently, and i would love to know what you think! :)
