A Palestinian baby named Dua Qishta is suffering from severe swelling in her body, reaching a stage where it makes breathing difficult and directly threatens her life. Her small body can no longer endure, and her condition is rapidly worsening amid the lack of proper medical treatment inside Gaza, while time passes and the danger grows closer.
Dua is currently hospitalized at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, where doctors are doing everything they can with extremely limited resources. Her condition urgently requires medical transfer outside Gaza, as the necessary specialized treatment is not available. Any delay could cost the life of a child who has known nothing from this world but pain.
As I read about Dua, I could not separate her story from that of my daughter, Iman. Iman suffers from a deformity in her right foot and needs a complex surgical operation that cannot be performed inside Gaza. She must receive treatment outside Gaza in order to walk normally. The fear I live with for Iman is the same fear Dua’s family is living today. Gaza’s children are not asking for the impossible, only for a real chance at treatment and life before their stories turn into yet another tragedy.
