Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) continually hurts my brain with how it’s simultaneously one of the most accurate and one of the least accurate adaptations.
There’s so, so much that they got right:
Dracula’s mustache
Jonathan’s hair turning white
Lizard fashion
Jack’s drug use
Mina’s typewriter
Jonathan’s diary
All three suitors appear
Dracula de-aging
Lucy receiving blood from multiple suitors
Sterilizing the boxes with the Eucharist
Lizard fashion
Wolf through the window
The group splitting up on their way to the castle
Dracula’s weird hairy hands
Jack examining Lucy at Arthur’s behest
The boxes being square
Dracula’s mortal wounds (sort of)
The fact that a ton of the dialogue is directly transcribed from the book
And yet the plot. And the characterization. And the overall vibe.
