Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) continually hurts my brain with how it’s simultaneously one of the most accurate and one of the least accurate adaptations.

There’s so, so much that they got right:

  • Dracula’s mustache
  • Jonathan’s hair turning white
  • Lizard fashion
  • Jack’s drug use
  • Mina’s typewriter
  • Jonathan’s diary
  • All three suitors appear
  • Dracula de-aging
  • Lucy receiving blood from multiple suitors
  • Sterilizing the boxes with the Eucharist
  • Lizard fashion
  • Wolf through the window
  • The group splitting up on their way to the castle
  • Dracula’s weird hairy hands
  • Jack examining Lucy at Arthur’s behest
  • The boxes being square
  • Dracula’s mortal wounds (sort of)
  • The fact that a ton of the dialogue is directly transcribed from the book

And yet the plot. And the characterization. And the overall vibe.

I don’t understand how Coppola did this

Filed under how and like more importantly. WHY? some guy ghosted me on a dating site once because he mentioned this movie to me and i responded “I need to watch that one still i know it's supposed to be great but i keep going into Dracula adaptations expecting them to have anything to do with the plot of Dracula“ never heard from him again thank god
