@i-idk-man-blr

got a new lighter. it’s shaped like a fish and it blinds you.

it had a huge sticker on it that said “this is not a toy”. the gas station i got it from had a sign infront of the display for these only that said “buy first, then test”. the first time you strike it (from the fins, by the way) you find out exactly why. they have added incredibly bright flashing blue LED lights on the eyes, which point directly into your eyes and the eyes of whoever is looking anywhere close to the fish that makes you blind.

a friend of mine was like “you can probably take this apart and cut the wires so it doesn’t do that anymore” and i told her “no i can’t. i can’t do that” and she was like “???why not?????????”

it’s just too fucking funny. this is the stupidest thing i own. thinking about that gas station clerk with like 50 more of these fucking things thinking “how the fuck am i gonna get rid of these?” makes me loose it. setting up the sign and i was literally the first person to buy one.

who thought this was a good idea.

laundry, dishes, dog walks, taxes, eating, sleeping, breathing, dusting, calling your mom, going to work, washing the car and watering the plants all has to be done over and over and over again so why would finding happiness be any different

See, thank you. It feels like a big realization for me tbh

It’s not that “this [xyz] will fix me” is wrong, it’s just… everything is kinda short term and that’s ok u gotta pace yourself

Wow. Seriously, this is brain-rewiring.

I've always thought "This will make me happy. For now." was a lame situation to be in.

But when you compare it to

  • eating will make me not hungry. For now.
  • calling my mom will get us caught up. For now.
  • watering the plants will keep them alive. For now.

...you realize that a good situation being temporary is not a reason not to do the thing

If something can make me happy for now, then that thing can make me happy. So I should do it.

to answer how i animated that -

in short, i

  1. digitally cut out parts i wanted to move
  2. covered up holes by copy+pasting
  3. shifted things around to make each frame

more detailed explanation under the cut~

Bad day

As a plumber this is definitely an oh shit moment

"exercise will give you more energy" gets said a lot as a common piece of health advice but I think it needs to be expanded into "exercising will make you tired while you do it, and you will continue to be tired immediately afterwards, sometimes even the next day too, but over months of consistent exercise, your muscles will get stronger and therefore get less tired out by everyday activities, making you feel like day-to-day life takes less physical energy than it used to"

but have you ever even heard of the fynbos biome ?!!?!?!?!

a biome so unique in south africa that it's earned an entirely new biome classification for itself. so many plants are endemic to this area, and ofc it's under threat of extinction.

It's a wonderful place! I had the privilege of visiting the fynbos last year and it was as amazing as these photos show and more!

Here are the 2024 vaccine recommendation schedules. They’ve already been wiped from the cdc site. Save them and share widely, especially to your friends with kids.

This is horrific. I really hope families are able to get informed correctly by their doctors and still receive the proper vaccinations (covered by insurance, etc)

Worth noting that individual states may provide their own guidance on vaccinations. For example, Washington, Oregon, and California entered into a West Coast Health Alliance last year to maintain the previous vaccination standards for their states.

I went to pottery class today and opened by asking several of my classmates if they knew how to use the slab roller upstairs. Nobody did but everyone wanted to, so when the teacher got in I’m like “hey teach, do you know how to use the slab roller upstairs” and she’s like “no” (she’s a visiting artist who only got here a couple months ago so this is not very surprising) “but I’ve used a lot of different ones and I bet we can figure it out.” Me: “do you want to go on a Journey of Discovery?” Everyone: yes. YES. *cue sickos faces* so we all thunder up the stairs periodically shouting JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY and our teacher snags another person who uses the slab roller A Lot and this person gives us a very thorough lesson and demonstration and every so often someone else wanders through and asks what’s happening and we all go JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY at them and now everyone knows how to use the slab roller and honestly I cannot recommend this approach enough as a way to make learning new skills and life generally more exciting.

PSA: This just happened to me so beware:

Before we begin, if someone reaches out to you apologizing for accidentally reporting you and giving you steps to fix that, it is a common scam that we are aware of. All reports are reviewed by a human, so if someone actually accidentally reported you, the report would likely be rejected. If someone like that reaches out to you, or you think someone is pretending to be [tumblr] Staff, please report it to us immediately and block them. Outside of official [tumblr] accounts and our support email, Staff will never message you, reply to your messages, or notify you about changes to your account. (source)

Fortunately, I don't trust anyone online, so instead of using the help they suggested (a Discord link), I searched for Tumblr help and contacted them instead. Always ALWAYS search for the website's real help centre first.

Here are screenshots from the interaction for awareness:

and from support:

If someone says they reported your account by mistake and then says you need to contact a "support" blog/agent or email, requests personal information, or to go to another platform (like Discord), to email anything that's not @tumblr.com, asks for payment or to purchase a product, urges you to change your login credentials, or anything similar, please do not comply — report the user (cog wheel > Mark as spam) and avoid further interaction.

Stay safe out there!
