thinking about your bruce question... my like. Personal take on this is that "like" doesn't really enter into it very much. like I don't know that that's a sensation Bruce feels very often because it's not an emotional register he operates in very much! he's out of practice.

as you said Bruce feels enormously empathetic towards people en masse and this is an emotion driven partly by his philosophy which is also driven by his emotion. the idea that everyone matters and no one is disposable so you have to do the best you can to save everybody all the time, because you don't know what the repercussions could be if you fail to save them (ie no one should ever feel the way Bruce did in that alley ever again.) BUT this is a big weighty philosophy driven by emotion (grief) that fuels most of his actions. does not necessarily fuel his REactions. I think Bruce does dislike a lot of civilians because most people are petty to each other and fall short of his ideals and do things he disagrees with. (Bruce also dislikes himself but that's another post.) for someone who masks so much he has very little patience for facades, and he doesn't see most people in extremis doing the things they might be capable of when pushed. he tends to like people he meets on the worst days of their lives! he's very kind to children and people who he pulls out of crumbling buildings etc etc. he likes a lot of his teammates! he jokes with canary he and Clark have their whole situation he and Babs butt heads all the time but I don't think he would ever say he dislikes her. but he almost always sees them in situations guaranteed to pull out the things he values most in people. which he like... rarely does for people he meets in civilian life.

but he does meet dick in extremis on the worst day of his life, and immediately sees dick's grief which of course is a reflection of his own. and then shortly after he sees dick's desire for vengeance, and also for justice, and that I think really cements Who Dick Is to him from the very beginning. dick can be enormously petty! (so can Bruce!) but Bruce has seen dick risk his life about eight million times and he knows that dick will stop at nothing to save people.

also of course this isn't just Bruce projecting they do understand each other really deeply which is why their relationship is such a complete codependent nightmare tangle and they will never be free of each other 🥰.
