I checked the date on the original post and it’s December 11, 2021. That was the day after I came home from college, immediately after the semester where I had a breakdown that collapsed my health into chaos and dissolved my identity and goals.

It is Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Moatsem al-Sharafy was not the only thirteen year old boy killed by Israel today. Another, in Central Bureij refugee camp, was killed in a drone strike with his dad and another relative.
They were not the only family killed in Bureij refugee camp today. Three brothers in the camp were martyred by tank shelling.
Palestinian journalists Mohammed Salah Qeshta, Anas Ghunaim and Abdul Raouf Shaath were with Egyptian Relief Committee to film footage of refugee camps in Gaza strip. Israelis struck their car and killed them.
A 32 year old woman, the same age as many of my close friends, was also shot in Southern Gaza.
I focused on the story of Moatsem because I can’t stop thinking about how many times that could have been my young friend Ahmed, going out for wood, water, food, or supplies to help his family. He is not that much older than Moatsem. He, too, wakes hungry. He, too, has a mother who worries over him.
Israel’s attacks have often gotten very close to Ahmed’s family. The deaths do not capture the extent of Israeli attacks, because they do not include those injured who survive. One of Ahmed’s neighbors in a nearby tent is a survivor of today’s attacks. This is how immediate the danger is.
@ahmedaldani333 and his family (verified on the @gazavetters list, #198) are living in a tent that has been subject to repeated flooding this winter. His family has been sick for weeks now. They thought it was the flu, but today Ahmed told me that they learned it is a virus that is spreading through these camps.
Ahmed has endured more in his adolescence than any person should have to endure in their entire lives.
Please have compassion and donate what you can to give him relief from sickness, cold wet conditions, and the fear of attack by the genocidal military of Israel. He needs to heal, survive, and escape.
