we need a concise terminology for when a character is either a) depressed and suicidal, or b) prevented for a long time from living a full and happy life on their own terms, and in the end the narrative cheerfully and unironically goes actually you don’t get to be free :) the correct answer is to kill yourself. and then this is bafflingly not presented as an injustice and a huge fucking bummer, but like, oh well, i guess it had to happen.
